About Cory Ruell

For nearly 20 years, I have had the honor of working with incredible people in the Financial Services and the Manufacturing industries. My passion is in developing people and developing businesses to achieve results that they didn't believe were possible. As a result, I have become a trusted strategic advisor, leader and finance partner of Boards, CEOs, Management Teams, and Finance Teams.I served as the Vice President of Finance (CFO) at Tally (Series D backed by a16z and Kleiner Perkins), a fintech app that helps people pay off credit card debt. I was responsible for all facets of Finance and Accounting (FP&A, GL Accounting, AP, AR, Payroll, Treasury, etc) as we helped shape the financial future for millions of consumers.Prior to Tally, I was the SVP of Finance (CFO) at One, a Series B neobank that was acquired by Walmart and Ribbit Capital in March 2022. In my short time there, I established our financial infrastructure and led due diligence and execution for the finance side of the transaction. Prior to One, I was the Vice President of Finance (CFO) for Simple, a pioneer in the fintech and neobanking industries. There I managed a team of rock stars that were responsible for all facets of Finance, Accounting, Data Analytics and Data Science. In my 4 years at Simple, we saw high double digit deposit CAGR, improved Gross Margin by over 5,000 bps and saw bottom line EBIT improvements by tens of millions of dollars. Prior to Simple, I was in positions of progressive responsibility in FP&A for Craft Brew Alliance(a $200M+ revenue public company acquired by Anheuser-Busch in 2020) and managed a team of managers and senior analysts responsible for budgeting, financial analysis, financial reporting, financial forecasting and decision support. Prior to CBA, I was in positions of progressive responsibility in FP&A and Treasury at Banfield Pet Hospital (subsidiary of Mars). Prior to Banfield, I was in a variety of roles consulting and working primarily for banks in loyalty marketing, credit cards and mortgage banking. I received my undergraduate degree in Finance from Michigan State and currently serve as the Treasurer of the MSU Alumni Association of Oregon and SW Washington.
