Sketchy Beats Cafe is a non-profit art and music space in Edinburgh, providing creative skills and music therapy to the local community. The concept started off as an pop-up life drawing session incorporating a live DJ, improv dancer and nude model where the audience was invited to ‘sketch to a beat’. I then raised the funds through a crowdfunding campaign to turn it into a permanent arts space.It has now grown into a collective of musicians, artists and other creatives. During the summer we tour various festivals around the country, curating stages with a lineup of music, spoken word, live art, dance and open jam sessions.In the space itself we have sewing workshops, craft sessions, open mics, open jams and sketching sessions during the week - backline and art materials are available for anyone to use. On weekends the space is open to members of the community to host their own events, such as rap battles, DJ nights, charity fundraisers and art exhibitions. Show less
