StorytellerNarativ, Inc. Apr 2010 - Sep 2010Brooklyn, New York, Us"Narativ teaches individuals and groups how to listen and tell stories for effective communication, confident self-presentation, powerful team building, and bold leadership." -narativ.comMy role at Narativ was to train high school students in listening and personal story telling, as a way to create unique essays for college applications. Our training was delivered by a team of Narativ Trainers in a workshop format. The students loved it! They laughed, learned, some opened up and brought tears and emotions to our faces. They engaged with the material from the first few minutes and showed a sustained interest in listening and storytelling.I also had the pleasure of telling my story on stage for an off-Broadway audience, and listening to other story tellers. -
Gymnastics CoachChelsea Piers Sep 2008 - Aug 2009New York, Ny, UsChelsea Piers has the largest gymnastics facility in the country. My responsibilities included coaching recreational classes, as well as competitive gymnasts, and adult classes. Total, I spent seven years involved in gymnastics and I still come back as a volunteer or competitor from time to time. One of my roles in gymnastics was being a coach. I've coached both competative and recreational athletes of all ages. At Aviator Gymnastics in Brooklyn we even ran a senior citizens class. The most enriching thing about coaching is how much you can learn from children if you actively listen to them. The lessons I learned from coaching children have been applicable leading volunteers in AIESEC, working with supervisors and managers at various jobs, and even dealing with relationship and family matters.I discovered gymnastics when I was fourteen years old, much too old to train with realistic hopes of Olympic presence, but I stuck around and learned that the value the sport had for me, and many of my teammates, was much greater than Olympic dreams. Gymnastics in New York City is a small family. We are a handful of gyms, teams and coaches, and being a part of that culture was an honor and a pleasure. I grew so much in that world, and two particular lessons stick out. One was understanding how a team built on shared values soars to great heights, and the other is the belief that anything is possible. I may have started gymnastics too late, but I was able to achieve things that I thought were impossible to achieve given the challenges and limitations. For that lesson I thank my coach, William White, who took me beyond limitations, and at the same time taught me to accept myself for who I am, weaknesses and strengths. Years later we named an award after our coach, in honor of coaching with a kind of love and dedication that took us beyond our dreams. Thanks, coach. -
Local Community PresidentAiesec Sep 2005 - Aug 2008Montreal, Quebec, CaAIESEC at Baruch CollegeI entered AIESEC as a volunteer at the Local Community on my college campus. I became a Vice President, then Local Community President. During my time there, we grew our membership base by 150%, held multiple events with over 500 people in attendance, sent 50 people on internships abroad in over 20 different nations, and put in to place operational and financial planning processes that still function to grow the Local Community today (Fall 2010).AIESEC United StatesIn the time I was involved in AIESEC, AIESEC United States was undergoing a change initiative, reorganizing many of its processes and organizational structures. I facilitated the in-person meetings and virtual platforms that Local Community Presidents around the country took part in, as we designed and implemented various organizational changes. I was supported in this role by our Executive Director, and the consulting group that was assisting us in the change initiative. It was a truly amazing learning experience.AIESEC FlorianopolisI lived in Brazil for 3 months as part of an internal exchange program. My role was to assist the Local Community in Florianopolis in their operational and financial planning processes, as well as teach English and a bit of US culture. I learned things well beyond the intent of my program. Since living in another culture pushed the limits of my comfort zone so much I learned things about myself I never knew before. Also, I learned to surf, I learned to love dancing, and I learned how enriching it is to immerse myself in a new culture. -
Project ManagerInterior Architectural Solutions Inc. Oct 2000 - Aug 2006Interior Architectural Solutions is my family's construction firm. It is an exclusive Design-Build Firm specializing in high-end custom renovations for New York City Apartments and Brownstones. The company continues to place a focus on building relationships and providing artisan craftsmanship.I grew up in my family's construction company. It's where I learned what it means to work hard, to make mistakes, and to be accountable. I also learned what it means to build something that's of value to people, and how to treat that delicate process. As I grew older I played a larger role in managing projects and learned my first lessons in management, how important attention to detail can be, and the value of hard work.
