About Courtenay Strickland

As founder of C. Strickland Consulting, Inc., I help organizations of all types — from for-profit tech companies to community-led nonprofits — grow and achieve transformative change through design and implementation of effective marketing, communications, public policy, and fund development strategies. As head of content for TaxDome, a SAAS company providing the best practice management solution on the market for accountants, bookkeepers, and tax professionals, I managed development and implementation of content strategy. I worked with our team of writers to ensure content that supported the company’s business and growth objectives across all pillars and channels. Prior to my time with TaxDome, I co-founded Writing for Green, which equips emerging and existing community based organizations and leaders with the tools and know-how to secure funding for their environmental justice work. I have also worked to build the funding and capacity of organizations focused on environmental justice, poverty solutions, racial justice and equity, and civil rights. Clients included Catalyst Miami, the Miami Workers Center, Florida Foster Care Review, and Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida. Before launching my own consulting business, I worked as Public Policy Director and chief lobbyist of the ACLU of Florida. I also served for five years as the ACLU of Florida's Voting Rights Project Director.Signature accomplishments to date: 1) drafted a proposal resulting in a $50 million award in 2023 from the United States EPA to The Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice at Texas Southern University, for use designing and implementing a grant program for community-led environmental justice organizations, 2) developed, as co-founder of Writing for Green, a live (virtual or in-person) and self-directed grant-writing training and coaching service designed to boost environmental justice organizations’ capacity to access key funding streams; 3) as founder of my own consulting company, raised millions during the last decade to support nonprofit organizations’ cause-oriented work; and 4) during my tenure with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), co-founded and directed the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, which played a key role in securing Florida voters’ 2018 approval of a state constitutional amendment to end the state’s ban on voting by people with past felony convictions.I hold a BA in Latin American Studies from Yale University and a Specialization in Creative Intervention (creative problem-solving) from Colegiatura Colombiana.
