I've worked as a doula, childbirth educator, and a homebirth midwifery apprentice, but my path forever shifted after the birth of my daughter. In recovering from my 54-hour home labor, hospital transport, and cesarean, I soon began creating a new model of understanding for planned out-of-hospital births that end in cesareans, now known as homebirth cesareans (HBC), a term I coined. Left without stories that reflected my own journey, I was driven to provide others with resources and support I could not find for herself.I am the author of "Homebirth Cesarean" a book for mothers, families, and birth professionals that details the HBC experience from pregnancy through the subsequent birth of another child. As a companion piece, I also authored "Healing From a Homebirth Cesarean" a workbook for all cesarean mothers that offers a powerful and innovative approach, complete with self-directed practices, to align the cognitive, physical, emotional, and relational areas of life affected by a cesarean. To help broaden the conversation and education around homebirth cesareans, I co-founded and was the executive director of a nonprofit that supported these births. Today, as the founder of the Homebirth Cesarean movement, I continue the vision of a future where women of my daughter's generation will birth with knowledge and dignity regardless of location, and in the company of care providers who respect and understand their wishes. To help move this dream forward, I facilitate in-person and online workshops for birth professionals and healing circles for mothers who experienced an HBC.
