The Statewide Advocacy and Campaigns Manager will be responsible for developing GSA Network’s advocacy agenda over the next couple of years. This role will be managing the GSA Network of California coalition and alliance-building work, implementing and coordinating advocacy and campaign strategy and programs. This position will focus on developing training and materials to support staff and youth leaders for advocacy and campaigns. It will also include supervision of staff and management of projects.

Leads statewide communication coordination. Manages program implementation, cohort recruitment, and logistics. Builds trust and carries out a youth and Genders and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) club base-building strategy in priority areas throughout California, primarily with remote and digital engagement. Represent GSA Network’s mission and vision in partnership with youth leaders in local and statewide coalitions that advance positive school climate and education justice. Develops thought leadership around trans and queer youth movement-building, issues, and potential campaigns. Earned contracts worth $450,000 with the Long Beach Unified School District to implement our Trans and Queer School Climate Campaign Committee work in collaboration with district staff and local youth leaders.

Represent GSA Network’s mission and vision in partnership with youth leaders in local and statewide coalitions that advance positive school climate and education justice. Develops thought leadership around trans and queer youth movement-building, issues, and potential campaigns. Coordinates Long Beach Unified School District Gender Neutral Restroom Implementation Coalition in collaboration with district staff and local youth leaders.

This position supports the local organizing work of GSA Network in Southern California and specializes in LGBTQ youth leadership deveopment and supporting youth led campaigns. Based on extensive knowledge in GSA youth organizing this position supports exisiting LGBTQ leadership programs at GSA Network as well as pilots new youth leadership models and supports youth-led campaign strategies. This position supervises and leads two youth organizing teams, the Queerdom - the regional GSA Youth Leadership Council and a “Core Leaders” team that participates in youth led campaigns. This position also provides technical and campaign support directly to local GSA clubs in Los Angeles County, focuses on community organizing in specific schools in Long Beach through The California Endowment's Building Healthy Communities program. This position will supervise one Youth Leadership Intern who will support the running of Queerdom.

Focuses on activating GSA clubs, youth organizing and leadership development on intersectional issues facing LGBTQ youth of color through trainings, workshops, coalitions, activist camps, leadership summits, and youth council meetings. Builds base of youth activists engaged in advancing policy issues at the intersections of LGBTQ student safety, economic and racial justice in schools. Responsible for providing program support to youth leaders in the Los Angeles County area to participate actively in coalition efforts with the Building Healthy Communities (BHC) initiatives in Boyle Heights, South Los Angeles and Long Beach. Leads community and direct youth organizing, working with a core group of youth, teachers and ally leaders through GSA Network’s membership to implement local school based campaigns for change.

Facilitated difficult dialogues and restorative justice circles around identity, race, conflict and other human relations-related issues with middle school and high school students as well as adult community members. Worked as part of a collaborative team to strategically engage and build leadership skill in youth throughout the community. Developed training curriculum for a state-wide youth trainings, tabling and outreach plans for CCEJ. Provided a support role in the early phases of the restorative youth diversion programs.

Worked to advance the strategies of the “Every Student Matters” Campaign, focused on ending punitive school discipline policies. Coordinated with four subcommittees and thirty youth leaders. Oversaw outreach initiatives and teams. Partnered with organizational allies. Served as a contact to all media, elected official, community stakeholder and organizations inquiries. Developed curriculum, trainings and presentations, for the school board, students, community members, and media. Successfully worked to pass a Long Beach Unified School District board resolution on School Discipline Principles and Practices. Developed organizing & advocacy skills in youth and parents apart of the campaign process. Built a broader coalition of interested stakeholders.
