Gene Expression Laboratory - Ronald M. Evans' Group: I studied metabolic homeostasis, mitochondrial function, hormone-controlled gene expression, and brown adipose tissue thermogenesis in a mouse model of mitochondrial disease. In these mice, an obesogenic high-fat western diet paradoxically stimulates aerobic thermogenesis and mitochondrial biogenesis, which drives their global metabolic state to resemble that of a lean, healthy mouse.
