Solving engineering problems and failures within professional time-scales.Examples of disciplines I have worked within include:PRODUCT DESIGN- I designed and produced drawings for a bespoke rig to test multiple thermo-mechanical properties of a 400kV power cable for the National Grid. - Developing a weigh-cell capable of monitoring a fluidised bed and carrying a weight of 200 tonnes. The design was taken from concept to delivery and provided the client with a new method of monitoring their production rate.- I Designed an electro-mechanical deployment system for an array of sensors which is towed behind a train and monitors the condition of the track.- I developed the design of accelerometer housings which are used to monitor the vibrations on structures and pipework.ANALYSIS- I have designed pipework to ASME B31.1 and B31.3 using AutoPIPE. Using FEA and hand calculations, I was able to reduce the design time and provide the customer with accurate results.- I have substantiated a wide variety of pressure vessels to codes such as ASME 8 or BS EN 13445 and determined any failures without the need for physical testing. FEA is very useful for examining explosive loading and using the results to design suitable modifications which increase the vessels factor of safety.MECHANICS AND VIBRATION- I have performed seismic analysis on vessels, pumps and offshore skids. I used the results of the analysis to decrease the stress and increase the factor of safety by making modifications to either the pipework or the structure.- FEA allows me to substantiate any design and examine the results without the need for expensive prototyping and physical testing.
