Canterbury Wheelchair Rugby Club were founded in 2014 are solely funded by sponsorship and donations. We are extremely lucky to have Steve Brown as our lead coach. Steve was the Captain of the GB team in the 2012 paralympics and has a wealth of experience in coaching and playing.The Club are very proud to be the only Club in Kent offering this paralympian sport which is an exciting fusion of ice hockey, handball and rugby, the game was originally founded in Canada in 1977. It’s not only based on speed and chair contact, but is also a tactically intelligent game to be involved in. Eight rolling substitutes make up squads of 12, with four players on court per team at any time, with the aim of driving the ball across the opponents' goal line. Contact between wheelchairs is permitted, as players use their chairs to block and hold opponents. The emphasis of the sport is on fun, excitement and inclusion, particularly for players with higher levels of impairment.Any sponsorship or donations support our players and their assistants on and off the pitch, from transport to and from games, accommodation (as all games are played across the country), insurances, memberships to the GB Wheelchair Rugby.
