CurrentI serve as the primary communication link for the Urban Forestry Commission, facilitating productive interactions and information flow. Overseeing a departmental budget of approximately $350,000, I allocate resources for contracts and materials essential to our operations. Leading a dedicated three-person full-time crew, I am responsible for directing day-to-day activities to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. In close collaboration with other city departments, I coordinate and supervise contractors engaged in tree and plant installation projects. My role also involves conducting meticulous reviews and inspections of Public Works projects, grading plans, and site plans to guarantee strict adherence to established policies and codes. Additionally, I actively participate in the review and collaborative development of comprehensive plans, as well as other policy, code, and guidance documents. Enforcing city codes and policies related to trees is a core aspect of my responsibilities, and I diligently ensure strict compliance. Addressing and resolving inquiries and complaints from citizens, business owners, and staff members is another crucial facet of my role. I maintain an up-to-date roster of licensed tree contractors, overseeing the annual renewal process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Furthermore, I facilitate seamless interdepartmental collaboration for community events, such as the Memorial Day Parade, contributing to the city's vibrant and cohesive community engagement efforts.Key Accomplishments:Administered Tree Canopy Fund by overseeing all donations and expenses.Served as primary liaison to Dominion Energy regarding utility pruning and removals.Invoiced a portfolio of over four service contracts, including IFBs and related renewals.Coordinated annual Arbor Day application process and celebrated occasion with enthusiasm.Coordinated several community-focused events, such as Neighborhood Tree Program and Habitat Restoration Team.
