Leading the team responsible for network infrastructure and operations; also working daily to Internet2's network-delivered services and global connectivity. Collaborates domestically and internationally to facilitate data intensive science and novel use of all R&E networks and exchange points regardless of geography and scale.

Responsible for strategic technical development of Internet2's operational network, including design-work related to ongoing functional enhancement projects, capacity planning, supporting member technical requests, and operational oversight.

Oversaw long-range planning and technical architecture of the Internet2 transcontinental and international network infrastructure. Lead special projects related to network innovation, business development, and targeted applications. Served as a technical liaison to the Internet2 community, working groups, advisory councils, and vendors.

Provided vision, engineering, and budgetary baselines for future development of statewide network services, including transport and connectivity to external peer networks. Translated the needs of higher education institutions, data centers, HPC centers, and other customers into fully-deployed technical solutions. Operated a production wide area network, consisting of DWDM transport equipment, switches, and routers; provided connectivity to ISP and R&E networks at 20 and 100 Gbps respectively. Developed new support systems providing network timing, test and measurement services. Implemented network tapping and aggregation switches to improve visibility into network performance and information security.

Actualized the complete overhaul of research campus network connectivity at McDonald Observatory, balancing complex scientific, residential, and educational requirements. Engineered industrial computers, imaging systems, motion controllers and communications equipment integrated into astronomical telescopes and instrumentation. Provided oversight for organization's systems administration, information security, disaster recovery and service provisioning (web, email, and directory). Directed technology implementation teams, including systems administrators, software developers, and network technicians. Managed recurrent operating budgets and hardware/software service contracts.

Managed an organization-wide IT support group, providing helpdesk, software development, and infrastructure services for administrative, academic, and research customers. Developed, prioritized and managed a series of capital projects for the UT Department of Astronomy, constructing the organization’s first in-house data center facilities, server clusters for critical services, and mass-storage systems for disaster recovery. Assessed and conveyed needs of individual faculty, researchers, engineers and students to Departmental and College administrators. Improved response times and problem resolution rates.

Directly supported computing infrastructure and scientific software for an astronomical research organization consisting of multiple, independent business units spanning multiple locations across Texas. Provided comprehensive hardware, software, and operating systems support, including desktop workstations and workgroup servers. Performed server software maintenance, compilation, debugging and OS patching. Provided systems engineering support for scientific instruments.

Directly supported department-level computing infrastructure and scientific software within multiple research fields, including high-energy physics and astronomy. Worked extensively with early HPC computer cluster deployments. Assembled, installed and supported UNIX, Linux, Windows, and Macintosh workstations and servers. Developed of web-based information handling applications, web-site design, and internet document publishing. Authored and debugged C and FORTRAN software. Installed and maintained LAN network infrastructure.
