About Cindy Carlson

I currently work full time as a Reference Librarian at Caplin & Drysdale after a hectic, but productive, 6 month stint as a contract-based Research Analyst at RoFinCo, Inc. It's great to be back in the world of law librarianship!Until June 2022, I worked for Fairfax County Public Schools as Head Librarian at Herndon Middle School. I started at FCPS in 2018 after earning my Masters in Education with a specialty in school librarianship from Longwood University. Between 2010 and 2016, when I started at Longwood, I did some volunteering at Artisan's United, a local fine art and craft co-op, and in the library of our elementary school, spending the bulk of my time as primary parent, managing our household and our surprisingly complicated children.Until late 2010, I was a law librarian, most recently working for the legal publishing arm of ThomsonReuters as a Librarian Relations Manager, and before that as a law firm librarian. I have extensive reference, training, and managerial experience. I am an active member of the American Association of Law Librarians (AALL), the Law Library Society of the District of Columbia (LLSDC), and the Virginia Association of Law Librarians (VAALL). In my first career as a law librarian, I was especially active in LLSDC, where I founded and was coordinator of their Legal Research Training Focus Group. I am the author of multiple articles on presentation skills, technology and research issues at LLRX.com, Law Library Lights, Librarians in the New Millennium, Perspectives, etc. I have also been a frequent presenter at local and national law librarian association meetings on the same.Specialties: library management, library skills education, law firm research training, Westlaw, presentation skills, law library marketing, law librarian value, business and competitive intelligence, creative writing, curriculum development, customer relations, legal research, information science, managing and hosting digital learning sessions, relationship building.
