Developed an open, consensus-building process involving more than 1,000 people to improve cooperation between private landowners and government agencies in protecting essential habitat of endangered species such as the Florida panther and other ecological resources on private lands, and in creating market-based incentives to encourage and reward private landowners in maintaining these natural resources. These efforts led to the development and adoption of the Farmland Stewardship Program that was included in Sec. 2003 of the 2002 U.S. Farm Bill, Florida’s Rural Lands Stewardship Program (Chapter 163.3248 Florida Statutes), and inclusion of the “stewardship agreement” concept in in the Hillsborough County (Florida) Agriculture Stewardship Program and Section 31 of Oregon’s Conservation Incentives Bill (HB 3616) that was signed into law in the summer of 2003.The organization was closed down once the projects around which it had been founded reached a successful conclusion and the funding for those projects had been expended.
