I have always had a strong interest in building things that I can set in motion. From a young age, I was always fascinated by finding out how things worked and finding out how I could create them myself. This had manifested in my early years in two ways: performing arts and bicycles. As a dancer and choreographer, it was easy to execute this desire to see things set in motion, whether I was directing dancers on stage or executing the staging of a piece myself. My interest in technical matters made me invaluable to any company of which I was a part, whether I was focusing lights, sewing costumes, or building a set. Finally, as a dramaturg, I spent a great deal of time critiquing, analyzing, and challenging the works of my colleagues as a collaborative partner, breaking down the components of a performance work to examine the meaning in each part.The wonder of parts in motion also led to a lifelong fascination with cycling, whether I was making deliveries as a courier, sprinting for a race finish, or repairing them for friends or customers. I was always intrigued by the technical languages, the considerations of component selection, and how people could use a device that, fundamentally, is completely similar, but in practice becomes a different machine. Whether a commuter, a racer, or a kid getting their training wheels removed, I was always pleased to set something new in motion.It was these collected experiences in art and mechanics that led me to take the plunge into software engineering. The learning curve of technical language and the challenges of new technologies, whether bridging to or disrupting old standards, makes coding an exciting and rewarding pursuit. The chance to meet new people, collaborate on projects, to test and examine the works of my colleagues and to have my own tested as well, is a continuation of the careers I have found fulfilling throughout my life.My recent time in Flatiron School has focused mostly on front-end development. We specifically focused on JavaScript, Ruby, Rails, React, Redux, HTML, and CSS, with exposure to Bootstrap, Bash, SQL, and Git/Github as necessary to completing the curriculum. In addition, I am currently studying Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB, and Sagas to expand my repertoire, and am always eager to acquire more skills. My specialty areas include responsive web design, the Model-View-Controller organization, and Flux architecture. I'm always looking for a chance to start a new project, talk about code, or add a new arrow to my quiver.
