Currently a postdoctoral researcher at Northumbria University, working on a range of projects with a theme of Advanced Materials and Sustainable Chemistry. I provide innovation support to companies in the North East of England via Arrow (arrowinnovation.org.uk), facilitating knowledge exchange between academic research and regional businesses to foster growth in the North East.I have a broad knowledge of chemical synthesis and analysis. During my PhD I made a range of novel ligands and complexes, often using air-sensitive techniques on the milligram scale. In my professional career I have worked on a variety of projects as a technical expert and have experience of scaling reactions to the kilogram scale, modifying the surface functionality of materials and synthesising novel sustainable materials. I particularly enjoy working on projects which involve raising the technology readiness level of academic research and building relationships between academia and industry.Additionally, I have experience teaching undergraduate students, in both a laboratory setting and in lectures, using research-led teaching to participate in CPD and gain professional recognition with an Advance-HE Associate Fellowship (AFHEA). I have undertaken various voluntary roles throughout my career, both professionally and for various sports clubs I have participated in over the years. I was elected as the department and faculty PhD representative during my doctorate, which offered valuable experience sitting on various committee meetings with stakeholders at every level of the University. I have also engaged with various outreach events throughout my time at university, and helped organise and run several societies and sports teams outside of my studies and work. On evenings and weekends I can often be found mountaineering, running or cycling!
