Craig Hunter is a veteran journalist with extensive experience as an editor, team leader and manager. He is Executive Editor of The Trace, where he helps set editorial strategy for the only newsroom in the U.S. exclusively dedicated to reporting on the nation's gun violence crisis. Prior to joining The Trace, Craig was VP, Editorial Director of One Day Studio at Teach For America, where he led a team of storytellers exploring systemic barriers to equitable educational outcomes. Craig spent the majority of his career in a variety of roles at The New York Times. As deputy media editor, he supervised a preeminent team of reporters covering the advertising, television, radio, and music industries. His tenure included nearly four years as assistant science editor, coordinating astronomy, physics and human space flight coverage, and editing stories for noted and Pulitzer Prize-winning medical and science writers.While at the Times, Craig served as a leading member of the newspaper's 2005 Diversity Council, which brought new hiring and promotion practices to the company and prompted the hiring of its first-ever chief diversity officer. A longtime student of emerging media trends, he is the co-founder of HeadStepper Media, a multimedia company that produces award-winning podcasts and helps other content creators reach audiences through the power of audio.
