Active in the air conditioning and refrigeration service industry

I am in charge of all the HVAC equipment in an off shore oil field in Angola, West Africa called Block 2. There are a total of four oil producing platforms in Block 2, each with walk in freezers, walk in cold rooms, accommodation air-conditioning chillers with various types and sizes of chilled water coils, pressurized MCC control rooms, domestics fridges, freezers, ice makers, drinking fountains, split type and window type A/C units and close control chemical labatories. I am in charge of servicing, repairing and maintaining all of the above equipment’s on the four platforms. I move between the platforms by means of the surfer boat when I’m carrying gas or if I just have hand tools and gauges I use the helicopter. I often spend nights on different platforms when I get delayed with equipment or when I’m busy on a break down.I am in charge of compiling reports on the current state of the equipment, recommending new types of equipment for various applications, sourcing and ordering spares. I am the only person carrying out any form of HVAC maintenance in Block 2 so at the moment I’m covering every aspect of the field. I answer directly to the Maintenance Superintendent. I also send regular reports to my Supervisors on shore

At Trane, I gained experience on a full range of both air and water cooled type chillers ranging from your scroll, 5 cylinder open drive reciprocating, 8 cylinder semi hermetic reciprocating, screw and centrifugal compressors. I have been exposed to and therefore earned great experience in commissioning chillers be it from new or after a repair has been carried out. I am able to correctly set up a unit to pull an effective vacuum, break the vacuum and charge a unit to achieve the correct sub cooling and superheat. All my work is carried out super efficiently under the correct time management.TRANE have a full range of controllers that I have become familiar with as well as the associated equipment such as cooling towers, evaporative condensers, fans, pumps, air compressors and make up tanks.I have acquired vast knowledge and experience on smaller Domestic jobs. These would be fitting new compressors, condensers, fans and complete condensing units to your smaller fridges, freezers, under counter bar fridges and ice machines.I spent much time working in heavy sugar industry. I have been sent to central Africa on numerous occasions to trouble shoot and repair various chillers and associated equipment related to the sugar industry.Since I have been at TRANE I had worked on many controlled environment applications such as computer server rooms and laboratories including the setting up of condenser water bypass valves. I have gained limited experience in operating and setting up variable speed drives, and servicing and maintaining steam driven absorption chillers.

AFCON Industrial Equipment are agents for BITZER {compressors, shell and tube condensers}, SPOLRLAN expansion valves/fittings and YUCON COIL {shell and tube evaporators and finned heat exchangers} and LG Air conditioners.When I joined AFCON I took a position up in their workshops. Here I was involved in the manufacture of small scale water cooled chillers, condenser units for air-conditioning and refrigeration applications and panel coolers for machine drives. I was involved in the workshop here until October 2004 a year after I qualified.After qualifying I was moved into sales and service position and was able to assist customers in the field with advice on the products that AFCON offered. This involved much field work and often working closely with customers to sort out breakdowns and cover warranty repairs. BITZER offer a large range of open drive compressors which were very popular to the shipping industry seeing as Durban is a port city.I was soon put in charge of all the BITZER and YUCON stock which included the receiving, dispatching, sale's and after sales services.I maintained this position until the end of August 2005 when I felt I needed more experience in the field and I wished to get back onto the tools full time.
