Profile bio

About Craig Macbeath

I was born and bred in the rough end of Aberdeen, Torry, traditionally an old fishing community. I went to a private school in the centre of town. You could say I had a mixed child hood, I’m just glad the bus stop was only a short walk, sorry run from the house!I wouldn’t say I had an amazingly memorable childhood, but I do remember being happy and discovering the outdoors and thriving in the sights and sound of the hills and countryside. I was headstrong and independent from an early age, two traits that have stuck to me like chewing gum to your shoe. I have an intense drive to do things for myself regardless of the size of the mountain. I guess with 1 grandfather being a master joiner and shipwright, and the other coming from the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers that was inevitable! Whether it be working on cars or bikes or the house, I’m there, figuring stuff out one step at a time. When I was old enough to work, I worked. I figured early on that to truly enjoy work you got to do what you love, so naturally I got myself a job in a bike shop. I love mountain bikes pure and simple. I love the feeling of freedom they give you, the simply in the design, but the innovation in development and in the details. I enjoyed the experience more than I care to remember, from sharing my excitement with customer to fixing their problems. I learned from a great mechanic in that period of my like, something I regularly lean back on when I am working on my own bikes or in my ‘real’ job. Funny thing about almost every bike mechanic I have ever met, they’re all into detail. Who would have thought!Having figured I knew the business I figured, why not start a business selling bikes. What could possible go wrong! Well, lots actually, but who said anything in life was easy. After a couple of fun years travelling from race to race selling parts and bikes the brand eventually got bigger than my ambitions, so I finished Uni, and had to get a real job. I’d learned lots, but still had plenty to learn. That brand, Transition Bikes have gone from strength to strength. After that comes the ‘career’ stuff, growing a family, working in ‘Oil’ literally building oil fields for many years which at the time was awesome fun. Sailing into the ocean for weeks at a time was genuinely an experience I will never forget, and a great learning experience again. These days it’s a challenge to balance the social life of 3 kids and the passion I still have for detail and technology. I still love bikes, detail and being independent.Anyway, less about me, what about you?

Listed skills include Subsea Engineering, Project Engineering, Engineering, Inspection, and 2 others.
