Agency plumber role in Newcastle. The project involved refurbishing the old Newcastle Breweries building into student accommodation. Duties included working from technical drawings to install the first-fix pipework for the heating cold and hot water systems.

I worked under an agency with Balfour Beatty on an industrial project which provided greater experience on a large construction site. Duties included the first and second fix of Heating, Ventilation and air conditioning systems as well as the installation of industrial waste, low carbon steel and copper pipework, valves and brackets. The experience aided my ability to read and work from drawings, as well as improving knowledge of Mechanical Engineering.

I worked on a casual basis for G4S, ensuring the safety, enjoyment and organization of spectators at various events throughout the country and Scotland. Typical duties that I am required to carry out include crowd management, traffic management and ticket checking, giving directions and dealing with problems that may arise. As the job involves working with a wide variety of different people, it encourages you to make quick decisions and greatly improved my people management skills.

Working as a link between the Site Foremen and Tradesmen, ensuring the Site ran smoothly by preparing work locations, organizing materials that were required, solving any problems that arose and then thoroughly cleaning the locations. I also was required to perform all manner of General Labouring duties including Grinding, Drilling, Sanding, Painting, Concreting, etc…

Agricultural Chemical Sprayer poisoning feral species of trees and weeds in the outback. This included identifying species of trees and spraying them, working with a group of 25 other people to ensure all trees were sprayed. I gained good radio skills and also directional awareness whilst maneuvering around vast farmers’ fields.

Following completion of my Apprenticeship, Gateshead Council was taken over by Morrison Facilities Services to which my employment was transferred under the TUPE system. My employment lasted from 2005 until I resigned in 2011. My duties were mainly working within a team of up to 6, fitting boilers and central heating systems to local authority properties, but also fitting bathrooms and kitchens. I was able to gain good initiative skills through planning the best way to complete the job, and also leadership skills by helping solve any problems that my workmates had. I also developed my communication skills by constantly liaising with the customers and workmates. I regularly worked with Apprentices as a mentor, helping them to develop their skills along the way which I found very rewarding.

I completed a Modern Apprenticeship at Gateshead Council as a Plumbing and Heating Engineer. Duties included all aspects of Plumbing and Heating work as well as labouring. Specific duties included fitting bathroom suites, radiators, kitchen sinks and all associated jobs such as preparing and cleaning the work location. During this time I was mainly working in residential properties and also in schools, youth clubs and commercial properties.
