Scottish Brain Sciences has been established to bring together the Triple Helix of Universities, Health Care Providers and the Life Sciences sector specifically to facilitate the early detection and effective treatment of Alzheimer's Disease and other Neurodegenerative Diseases. To do so will need the coordination with multiple partners of data, imaging and laboratory sciences with the construction of transformative infrastructure in each of these domains and trial delivery locations. Clinical trials today will use these technologies that can transition seamlessly into clinical practice in the near future. Ease of access for people to early detection of neurodegenerative disease and initiation of disease modifying therapies is critical to get right both in terms of accuracy and speed of provision. Moreover, we seek to facilitate for industry partners a trials and clinical ecosystem so they can undertake the trials they want to do as opposed to the trials they currently can do in 'memory clinic' populations with very late stage (unmodifiable) neurodegenerative disease.In my various roles over recent years in clinical practice, academia and the 3rd sector with Brain Health Scotland, I have noted the latent capacity in each of these sectors to truly transform (brain) health care in the 21st Century. Scottish Brain Sciences is I believe the key to unlock this capacity with the dynamism, focus and agility of a new and dedicated life sciences company which is head quartered in Scotland. Alzheimer's though is a global threat and we have the ambition and drive to expand the model we develop in Scotland to other parts of the world including LMIC's where one knows the need is greatest.
