Co-founder and CEO of LumOptica Limited, an optical and laser systems R&D house, offering in-house and contract R&D, consultancy and optical design and simulation. We support a range of clients who demand the highest levels of expertise and quality in the development of complex electro-optical systems and concepts. We deliver this through the provision of systems studies, feasibility studies, optical modelling, experimental services and prototype development and optical safety consulting (all covering free-space and fibre optics). Using Zemax software we are able to design, simulate and optimise optical systems and components as well as assessing trade-offs in cost versus performance (e.g. off-the-shelf versus bespoke). This provides significant benefits in terms of cost effective right-first-time solutions. Using multi-physics software COMSOL we are able to model coupled bi-directional problems, e.g., quantifying the effects of laser heating on glass, which in turn affects the optical properties of the glass and hence modified laser propagation. Our laser beam propagation modelling capability, utilising MODTRAN6 enables us to make accurate predictions of laser extinction upon atmospheric propagation - an invaluable metric for directed energy and laser sensing systems alike. We have two well-equipped optical laboratories and an ISO Class 7 clean-room. We can therefore undertake experimental/product development in addition to test and characterisation for our clients.
