Worked as a Senior Software Engineer developing the Argent Terminal Adaptor (ATA) and Argent Enhanced Terminal Adaptor (AETA) for Telstra. This involved writing the native device drivers for Asynchronous and Synchronous Communications on the AMD186CC processor. Writing the majority of the Link Layer Protocols and some of the Network Layer protocols for financial message processing. Implementing Exception handling code in Assembly Language. Implemented the memory allocation routines and Flash memory access functionality.Developed the V.22 and V.22bis modem drivers used in the ATA and AETA which required specialised adjustments to suite the Telstra Leased Line Network Terminating modems being used at the time.Developed Systems Acceptance Testing documentation and procedures so that Telstra could be satisfied that each firmware update they received was fit for use and safe to be deployed to units in the field.Developed Factory Acceptance Testing procedures and equipment so that the ATA and AETAs could be very thoroughly tested when they were came off the production line.Assisted the development of highly reliable remote upgrade software and procedures to ensure that even in the event of random power failures during a remote upgrade process that the device would never be left in an unrecoverable state.Experience gained during this time:* High Level Data Link Control (HDLC NRM Primary and Secondary modes of operation).* Connection-less Network Layer Protocols (CNLP).* Systems Network Architecture (SNA requirement for various ATM implementation compatibility).* Transaction Protocol Data Unit (TPDU).* Basic understanding of electronics and schematic reading.* Familiarity with Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes and diagnosing faults on prototype boards to ensure that a reliable design was used in the final manufacturing runs.

Begin employment at Braintree as a Junior Software Engineer writing MSDOS device drivers for an in house Synchronous Communications cards used in various Olivetti ATMs at the time.Developed and supported HDLC/X.25 communications gateways.Developed and supported Airline Link Control ALC/IPARS synchronous communications processors for Japan Airlines and Air Caledonie throughout Australia, so that they could run PC based Windows Terminal emulation software to communicate with their Airlines Reservation System. This was a replacement for very old custom Airlines Reservation Terminals that were rapidly becoming obsolete. Japan Airlines ran Braintrees Terminal emulation software for a number of years until the internet became widely available and they eventually developed a web based booking system in Japan.Experienced gained during this time:* C programming and documentation.* IBM PC Assembly Language.* On-site PC Hardware and Software Support.* Customer Support.* Low level modem handshake protocols.* X.25 and HDLC diagnostics and support.
