I am currently the CEO of the listed subsidiary of AA plc, Anglo American Platinum Ltd. The company is the largest Platinum Group Metals producer globally with operations in South Africa and Zimbabwe and marketing offices in London and Singapore. I am responsible for leading the team to ensure overall operation and function, reporting to the Regional Director and board Chair.

I was responsible for the finance function of the company including financial reporting, budget and planning, corporate finance, tax, treasury, audit and compliance, company secretarial, capital allocation, supply chain, IM and investor relations, with a finance team of around 350 people, located in South Africa, Zimbabwe and London. During these 4 years, linked to a five-year finance transformation program, I restructured the finance function to be more value and future performance focused, improving effectiveness of the team and the function through business partnering and utilising analytics and trends to improve business outcomes.

I was responsible for Group financial and performance reporting, setting Group standards and policies, and developing functional processes and the management of the Finance function in London and South Africa. I played a crucial role with Group CEO and Finance Director monitoring, driving and controlling financial performance of the Group and interacting with the Board, Audit Committee, and Investor Relations. I implemented a new Group consolidation and budget system to support restructured Group and streamline reporting processes. I also had responsibility for the Group Shared Services which included back-office employee and financial function services.

In addition to being the chief financial officer, I was the Commercial Director reporting to Business Unit CEO as well as a Director and Finance Committee member of the joint venture port company LLX-MR. I led a large team consisting of eight direct reports and total complement of about 160 people. Together with my team, I redesigned the finance structure, simplifying roles and improving the performance of the function in order to be more responsive to the businesses requirements. A highlight of mine is the implementation of organisational restructures with a focus on creating a culture for delivering results, improving accountability and enhancing the effectiveness of the Executive Committee. During this time, I also successfully constructed and executed the delivery of an $8.4 billion mine, 525 km pipeline and port.

In this role, I provided direct support to the Group CEO including the implementation of strategic decisions, establishing the key activity areas for the company, following up on management actions and managing the office’s day-to-day activities.

I was responsible for finance functional activities, including; treasury, taxation, risk and assurance, information technology, financial reporting, management accounting, corporate finance and capital project evaluations. I developed and played a pivotal role in the $1 billion Black Economic Empowerment transaction, with responsibility for valuation, funding and deal structure negotiations as well as formulating the construction of the transaction, identifying assets to be disposed and analysing the funding options. I was the director of the Richards Bay Coal Terminal, including finance committee representative, Anglo Coal Marketing Limited, Anglo American Provident Fund, Anglo Inyosi Coal, Mafube Coal Mining and alternate employer member of Anglo American Medical Scheme.
