They have 3 stores, two salons and a Spa in the Channel Islands and 4 Stores/Salons in Paris; as well as having offices both in London and Jersey, Distributions centres in Northampton and Evereux (France) and selling over 450 leading Brands with over 30,000 SKU’s.I was responsible for the following teams; Operations, Customer Experience/Service, Supply Chain, Logistics, Programme Management, Business Systems, ERP Development, BI, Fraud, Product Management and Customer engagement. Operations Director (Coo) For Play.Com Supporting Priceminister.Fr And Buy.ComRakuten Europe Jun 2008 - Jan 2013Luxembourg, Luxembourg, LuPlay.com (part of Rakuten) were a UK equivalent of Amazon selling in 11 categories (from media & electronics to toys & clothing). At its peak the sales were more than £350m, with 200k SKUs stocked and shipping over 40m orders each year.My role reported into the MD and was a key part of a small Executive Leadership Team; my main focus was on customer proposition, order profitability and operational efficiency. I managed teams including Merchandising (planning & procurement), Supply Chain (vendor management, finance & IT) and Logistics.I held budget responsibilities for £250m of product spend, £40m carriers spend and over £10m of indirect/labour costs. This included full P&L responsibility for a logistics subsidiary in Jersey.I developed budget and order profitability models with a particular focus on conversion and range, this included improving availability by over 15%, increasing price competitiveness, building range based on search analytics, exiting unprofitable ranges, reducing stock holding by 50% and enhancing the service proposition.My team delivered a large number of projects, both IT and Kaizen, projects included implementing new Warehouse, EDI, planning/procurement and returns management systems. A full review of the value chain was undertaken using Kaizen processes, resulting in six figure savings, eliminating unnecessary processes and improving the customer journey.Within Distribution I ran 8 sheds in 4 locations (including two 3PLs) employing over 1000 team members at peak and handling 400k orders on the busiest day. Substantial savings were achieved through lean management, adding automation, order consolidation and reducing packaging costs, carriers were reviewed and savings were successfully negotiated of over 15%.My final two projects were transitioning Play’s retail business to a market place format and acquiring a 3PL business in France to run a fulfilled by solution for Rakuten. -

Sadly IBuy suffered the fate of most fledgling TV Shopping channels and closed its operations. I was the last remaining senior manager responsible for stock and asset clearance. I was directly responsible for managing 3PL warehousing, home delivery, reverse logistics, quality, supply chain and inventory /clearance. I had indirect responsibility for customer services, show control and some aspects of merchandising (OTB etc).My area broke even when costs were measured again P&P income.AchievementsModified Warehouse processes, built WMS, changed 3PL warehouses, introduced quality processes, reduced customer complaints, reduced customer returns, changed carriers, improved service levels, changed samples processes – overall reducing the costs by over 40% while improving performance in all area’s. This was achieved while volumes doubled and head count only grew by one. -

The process change program delivered increased service levels and a substantial lowering in manpower costs.• Systems - Developed IT systems; SAP, POMS (used for Import Management, PO Management/Reporting and for inbound forecasting), a vendor non-compliance system and a First Piece QA system.•Vendor - I introduced new terms and conditions for all vendors, new returns agreements, a VCB policy with an annual income £1m, vendor meetings/Forums, new vendor friendly manuals and a vendor web interface.•Merchandising - Introduced a new era of trust between the warehouse and merchants.
