Craig Mason served as Senior Vice President, Asset Management at Host Hotels & Resorts. Before leaving HHR, Craig led the Asset Management Division that included 110 hotels globally. His skills in real estate development, major repositioning projects, finance, marketing and all areas of hotel operations helped lead his team to consistently exceed budget. Effective at identifying and valuing business opportunities ranging from single assets to diverse portfolios, Craig implemented best practices and cultivated new innovations to drive portfolio results. Most recently, along with his portfolio oversight, Craig also led the asset management efforts in the complete repositioning and renovation of the Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, AZ. During his tenure at HHR Craig asset managed many of the largest repositioning and expansion projects in the company’s portfolio including; the New York Marriott Marquis, the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort, The Ritz-Carlton Amelia Island, The Ritz-Carlton Naples Beach Resort, The Ritz-Carlton Naples Golf Resort, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, the San Francisco Moscone Center Marriott Marquis, the San Diego Marriott Marquis, the Hyatt Manchester San Diego, the Sheraton San Diego, the JW Marriott Desert Springs, the Hyatt Maui Resort, the Fairmont Kea Lanai Resort, The Phoenician and the Scottsdale Westin Kierland Resort. Craig Mason joined Carey Winston in 1994 with the oversight of the Washington, DC management group that operated 16 office buildings totaling 3M square feet of space for 12 institutional clients. Here he created value for clients by reducing operating expenses, maintaining the facilities properly, focusing on high quality tenant service and proactively working with the leasing teams to extend existing tenant leases. During his time at Carey Winston, the DC portfolio grew by 1M square feet.

Mr. Mason moved on to Balcor in 1987 where he served as a senior investment analyst underwriting and structuring a variety of deals over a spectrum of real estate asset classes. He moved on to the investment management group that oversaw Balcor’s short term debt portfolio. Here he negotiated new loans, prepayments and the restructure of troubled loans. He was then promoted to the Asset Management Group where he managed the investments of 30 foreclosed office and industrial buildings (3.6 million square feet) located throughout the United States for this $5.4 billion real estate subsidiary of American Express.

Craig started his career as a consultant in hospitality management at Laventhol & Horwath. Here he conducted market studies, financial forecasts and appraisal studies for various income-producing real estate properties including hotels, casinos, restaurants and mixed-use projects. He also provided independent assessments of development opportunities to lenders, investors and syndicators.
