I established Climate-smart Infrastructure Partners to combine my 20+ years of finance, advisory, energy, and infrastructure expertise into one company to focus on energy transition – one of the most critical issues globally.CSI helps the countries we work in to be more resilient to the impacts of climate change, by working with experienced sponsors to structure and unlock finance for this critically important market, leveraging the track record & networks of the senior team.Our team has deep expertise in the development and construction of clean energy and digital infrastructure assets, having developed 500MW of renewable energy projects, off-grid social infrastructure (impacting millions of lives) and hyper-scale data centres. Between us, the management team has also closed financing and investment transactions of more than £8bn globally.Because of this, we have a strong knowledge of the finance landscape including which infrastructure funds, private equity firms and venture capitalists are currently investing in the energy transition sector, as well as excellent working relationships with many of the public financiers (DFIs, ECAs & MDBs) and impact investors.We use this knowledge to develop and package a blend of innovative financing solutions for corporate and government sponsors so they can deliver on their energy transition ambitions.Market wise, we have a primary focus on helping sponsors roll out climate-smart infrastructure – both hardware and software – in emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs), and a secondary focus on select European markets. By unlocking green growth finance for projects or companies we help the countries we work in to combat the impacts of climate change.

In conjunction with previous Energy, Banking, and Real Estate colleagues, I co-founded Future Earth Energy (FE) as a Renewable Energy focused advisor and developer business specialising in sourcing, structuring and arranging mid-scale renewable energy & infrastructure (EfW/BESS/Solar/Wind/Hydrogen) investments in the UK.FE's successes to date have included: 1) Developed 2 x 18MW UK Energy from Waste projects from scratch from 2015, both of which were successfully sold and exited (in early 2020) to institutional Investors for multi-million £ purchase prices. This resulted in a 2.5x return to investors and continues to deliver returns for the company and private investors through how the deal was negotiated and structured.2) Advised NYSE listed Renewable Energy developer on UK market entry, including acquisition of 2 x 30MW Solar PV construction ready portfolios, development management of the 60MW until operational, sourcing and negotiating with Exit investors and eventually exiting the entire portfolio to one of the UK's premier Renewable Energy investors.3) Secured a £20m funding commitment from a UK infrastructure fund for the development of District Heating networks.4) Developed a commercial & industrial Solar PV carpark proposition which didn't rely on government tariffs or subsidies and secured a £25m funding commitment for it from an infrastructure fund.5) Negotiated a JV with an African Solar PV developer, which earned significant fees for the business.

After EC Harris was acquired by Arcadis, I decided working for a much larger consultancy which now employed 25000 people wasn't my idea of fun, so I set up another consultancy business focused on providing Commercial Director, Commercial Strategy and Fundraising/Investment Advisory services to businesses in the Renewable Energy, Sustainable/Green Infrastructure & Impact Investment/ESG sectors in the UK, Europe and Africa.A selection of clients to date have included:1) Aqua Africa, a Social Impact project developer developing clean water infrastructure projects in West Africa, in which I acted as the Commercial Director since the company began. See more details re AA below.2) Future Earth Energy, a UK renewable energy developer which I co-founded in 2014 and where I have been the Commercial Director ever since. See more details re FE above.3) Chayora, a listed Hong Kong Real Estate vehicle developing Data Centres in China, which has raised more than $300m since 2014.4) An infrastructure & sustainable forestry developer operating across Africa, where I advised on the commercial strategy around group investments, M&A, and managed key financial and contractor partner relationships in the UK and Asia.5) A UK Renewable Energy (Wind) developer with a 80MW pipeline of projects in the UK & Ireland, where I negotiated & secured terms for equity & mezzanine investment from a Middle East infrastructure fund and 85% project finance from a leading German Bank.

Alongside the CEO/Founder since the start of the company, I built this award-winning, social-impact "profit with purpose" company from an early stage idea to a successful, profitable developer of climate-smart water infrastructure projects in Africa turning over £4m per annum and employing 45 people in the UK and Ghana.Since inception, in addition to a broader commercial, procurement and strategic role, I was directly responsible for every financing requirement of the company and closed multiple debt/equity/convertible rounds for the UK company, a variety of blended finance project financings (€30m+), as well as various corporate banking facilities and trade finance products. This included arranging the first ever "Green Loan" done by UK Export Finance (UKEF) and HSBC in Africa.Having now developed a pipeline of projects across Africa, the ambition of the company is to take 10million people out of water poverty (SDG6) using clean energy (SDG13) and it has the continued full support of UKEF, DiT, DFI's, Multilaterals and African governments across Africa to do so.I remain a shareholder and avid supporter of the business.

Novare Africa Fund is a $450m USD Mauritius stockmarket listed property fund developing commercial real estate across Africa (primarily Nigeria, Zambia & Mozambique). As an active Board Director, as well as the usual governance and compliance matters during Board meetings, I sat on all of the Investment Committees, challenged the investment recommendations of the fund sub-advisor (when necessary) and advised on country strategy.

Before crowdfunding even had the name crowdfunding, I co-founded The Ideas Factory (with 3 x real estate investment colleagues) as an online / offline fundraising platform for startups requiring seed or early stage finance in the cleantech / film & media / renewable energy & real estate sectors. With a network of HNW's, private investor syndicates & family offices, the business raised more than £45 million for over 50 companies before rebranding into ShadowFoundr.

Persuaded to rejoin corporate life by the CEO of EC Harris (a large UK management consulting business), I was invited to be a founding Partner of EC Harris Investments where I was responsible for strategic advice to real estate developers in the UK/EMEA region and securing seed capital and project finance from ECH’s Lender & Investor (L&I) client base. In addition, in conjunction with the Head of Renewables, I developed creative, fully-funded PV and Energy Efficiency value propositions for ECH’s clients and was jointly responsible for securing investment of more than £100m from L&I clients into Renewable Energy projects.

Set up a commercial / financial consultancy to advise a variety of real estate businesses including First Phase Property & Ditare Real Estate. In this period, I was responsible for commercial advice,structuring, financial packaging and placement of more than £500 million of residential and commercial real estate for EMEA developers, primarily to HNW’s, private investor syndicates & family offices.
