Organising shifts, pay, and stock levels, all have put my organised, logical approach to great effect, while easily learning and managing new software thanks to my experience at university. Being responsible for the entire bar staff and all customers has the potential to be stressful, however, if your preparation is thoroughly performed then any incidents are just a case of solving and moving on to the next in a structured approach at each event.

Onboard steward in the merchant navy has a wide range of tasks and responsibilities, the main one being the safety of the passengers. Hence a lot of training constantly undertook: first aid, search and rescue, serving at sea, fire fighting, lifeboat handling.

This role involved deporting illegal immigrants back to the continent in handcuffs, escorted personally on the ships. High level of responsibility, as there were two security officers to three detainees, long hours with a constant vigilance needed for the days of the voyage.

A bouncer's (as it is known) role is to de-escalate situations. It is mostly a people relations-oriented job where your appearance and body language are just as important as your words and tone. Fighting and restraining were the last protocol but with professional classes and martial arts training, it could be safely achieved. Worked unsocial hours ensuring the safety of staff and customers. Carrying out random spot checks on persons entering the venue as per company training and guidelines.

One of the most rewarding jobs I have had, working as a mechanic from cars to 20-tonne excavators. High pressure to get the job done, sometimes on-site in the pouring rain with sparse tools and cover, working into the dead of night. Taught me resilience and persistence with a touch of skill and experience can always get the job done no matter the obstacles.

Time management was essential in this role, from packing your van a certain way to sorting the most efficient routes.
