Tech and video gaming entrepreneur, investor, thought leader, and public speaker with over 25 years of experience in esports, events, and video gaming. Starting with my first online dial-up league and "LAN party" event for Doom 2 in 1994, I've experienced the transformation into today's massive festivals with millions watching online and witnessed the industry's evolution firsthand.I founded Multiplay in 1997, initially focusing on hosting LAN gaming events. As the industry evolved and the company grew, we also expanded to dedicated game servers, collaborating directly with game studios and publishers, offering scalable multiplayer technology to all game creators from indies to AAA studios. Multiplay grew to over 100 employees and ran various events, including Insomnia, the UK's largest gaming festival, which drew 35,000 attendees. I led Multiplay through its acquisition by GAME Digital PLC in March 2015 and subsequently spearheaded strategy and partnerships in esports and competitive gaming for the GAME Group until I left my full-time role in December 2017. Multiplay Digital, the online game hosting division was sold to Unity Technologies in 2017.Currently, my days are a dynamic blend of roles: angel investor, trusted advisor, non-executive chairman, and board member across various enterprises in the esports, media, tech, and video gaming sectors. I derive immense satisfaction from partnering with startups and leveraging my expertise to propel them to the next level.As a technology entrepreneur deeply rooted in my passions for science, technology, and video gaming, I understand the transformative power of determination. Over the intervening years the company has transformed and diversified; the "Insomnia" events now nicknamed the "Glastonbury of Gaming" with many thousands of visitors, large exhibition, televised stage with tournament finals and a real festival feel. They are now one of the largest festivals of any kind in the UK, attracting hundreds of thousands of people a year.In 2002 the main diversification of Multiplay began, into the online hosting of games. This saw tremendous growth, including the starting of our own ISP network in 2004, to the multi-continent setup and tens of thousands of servers. Multiplay now offers hosting worldwide, both for consumers and developers/publishers alike and are chosen as the official trusted host by many companies both for their games and communities. In particular, our Clanforge product has been the backbone of a number of game launches, most notably Titanfall 2 in 2016. Multiplay expanded the contract events and hardware rentals business (www.multiplayevents.com), offering solutions ranging from the execution of small press events, to stage management and live streaming, right up to large consumer expos. Our most notable achievements to date have been the running of Minecon (the world record holding official event for Minecraft) since 2012 and Runefest since 2013. Multiplay was acquired by GAME Digital PLC in March 2015. I stayed on as CEO to continue to lead the growth of the company to a new level. -
