From CPA to Pin Seller and back to Accounting/Book Keeping - how did that happen?July 2022 I sold PinProsPlus to my son the next generation Pin Guy. But after a few months of so called retirement - I was ready for the next thing. So, after 30 years of CPA, COO or CEO experiences with various small business, I decided to return to my roots of accounting. I learned working in small business if your books are messy then very likely everything that follows is messy from decision making to cash flow to reporting.As a former CPA, organizing, analyzing and reporting numbers is easy, but for small business owners it's not so easy.Most often, it is not the product or the selling that fails a business owner, it is the lack of accounting and lack of cash flow.Accounting is accountability!When accounting is shaky or non existent everything else seems to fall apart - eventually.. I'm here to help you with that accountability with no judgement on my part. I get it. I've been on both sides.But how did I get from CPA to Pin Seller and back to Accounting/Book Keeping?I began about 30+ years ago as a CPA, working for KPMG a large international accounting firm. After 5 years in public accounting, I had served my time, gained valuable experience, and was ready for a change. I took a position as controller at a small company named SymbolArts which specialized in law enforcement insignia. I progressed from controller to COO and along the way helped grow the company to prosperity. CPA to pin seller wasn’t exactly a traditional career trajectory, but it suited me on the way to realizing my dream of owning my own business. In 2008, I left all security behind and walked away with a small division of SymbolArts, known as PinPros. Back then, I was the order processor, the shipper, the salesman and everything in between. Years later, PinPros grew, made happy customers all over the world, and is now known as PinProsPlus.After 14 years enjoying custom pins, it was time to move on. I sold PinProsPlus to my son and here I am ready to help others with their small business accounting needs. Balance sheets and income statements really do tell interesting stories - I learned to read numbers which really proved valuable for everything I did after. I grew through the ranks, assistant, staff, senior and ultimately manager. The experience of seeing the inner workings of small to large corporations gave good perspective and insight into how businesses work. Along the way I attested to the validity of companies financial statements so people could have faith and trust in them.
