About Craig Kopp
Let's start here. I love communication. I have spent my life learning how to communicate with people, It started in radio and branched off into television, print and education. I helped lay the foundation for what is now classic rock radio. I spent 10 years in the boiling cauldron of talk radio. I honed my interviewing skills doing over 10,000 interviews with movie stars and directors. I found a home in public radio where authentic story-telling and personality makes it the last bastion of audio journalism. I've managed small newsrooms with big ambition and an entire radio station of mostly volunteers. And, I've effectively shared what I've seen and learned with college students and professionals. There is no new media, just new ways to deliver what media has always delivered -- a good story.
Listed skills include Radio Broadcasting, News Writing, Film, Journalism, and 38 others.

Editor/Producer
Consulted on the conception and launch of this Jewish Public Affairs podcast which has received the 2020 Steve Marx Innovation Award from the Tampa JCC and Federation. Edit, produce, and voice continuity weekly.
Reporter
Pitch, research, and write legal news stories for this consumer-focused legal website. I have contributed stories on a politician's legal right to lie, the copyright laws on candidates' use of popular music, and the effect of coronavirus on divorce.
Managing Editor
As Managing Editor of this small public radio station in the highly-charged and oxygen-thin atmosphere of Aspen, I oversaw a newsroom of three, including two on their first jobs in the business. One story by a newsroom newbee went on to win First Place in the 2019 “Top of the Rockies” awards from the Colorado Pro Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.I also edited all on-air copy and all internet stories, as well as substitute anchored on All Things Considered and Morning Edition and produced my own features, mostly newsmaker interviews, including the Attorney General of Colorado and documentarian Ken Burns.
Adjunct Professor/Introduction To Podcasting
Used multimedia background and podcasting experience to bring first podcasting course to the University of South Florida. Students learn the basics of this ‘radio-on-demand’ medium including the essentials of compelling interviewing, topic generation and market research, developing a podcast, producing a podcast and marketing a podcast. This popular course showed digital native students that podcasting is really radio on demand and taught them best principles for effective interviewing and production.
General Manager
Managed all operations of this heritage community radio station in Tampa, Florida. After operating in the red for several years, I put the station's budget back in the black by bringing engineering in-house and coaching this all-volunteer air staff on the finer points of on-air fundraising. I also secured county grants for a new STL tower and new studio boards. I put the station back on a ratings metric to evaluate performance and brought ratings up through aggressive billboard marketing campaigns.
