All of the open heart patients came directly to our unit. Providence utilizes the Zoll Thermogard device for TTM, which we used on our unit at times and is the best TTM device I’d used.

ICU step-down/ cardiac telemetry unit that was also a dedicated stroke unit. Many of the patients were pre or post open-heart, heart cath or post pacer-placements. I monitored I/Os from chest tubes and other drains. I titrated cardiac, insulin, Lasix and other drips. Monitored, analyzed and documented cardiac rhythms. Conducted my nursing assessments every 2-4 hours depending on patient stability/ diagnosis. If I had an acute stroke patient, I conducted hourly stroke assessments. The unit provided a 1:3-4 nurse/patient ratio.

Per-diem. Conducted CIWA & OOWS (Objective Opiate Withdrawal Scale) assessments and implemented protocols/ interventions. Most of what I did at Warm Beach was to interact with the residents and make them feel at home and welcome in the facility. I conducted light exercise activities in a group setting, brought them from their rooms to the recreation center to watch movies, etc. I also served them two meals per shift in which I made sure they got everything they needed for the duration of their meal.
