Responsible for product strategy for BMC's DB2 solutions. The job consisted of ongoing research to keep abreast of the market with regard to DBMS products and DBA tools, managing BMC's continually evolving DB2 product strategy, communicating BMC's strategy to analysts, customers, and prospects and reviewing product development plans for conformance to the strategy. Also responsible for additional technical marketing duties including delivery of technical presentations at industry conferences and regional user groups, participating in customer events, authoring white papers and technical articles for trade publications, and interfacing with customers to determine needs and solicit product requirements.

PLATINUM provided software products and professional services for database management, systems management, application development, and data warehousing. I was responsible for all marketing and product management for PLATINUM's database products. I built and implemented a departmental plan for product management and marketing including organizational structure, reporting hierarchy, staffing, budget, quarterly objectives, marketing plan processes and staff training plans. The final organization consisted of four groups: marketing programs, product management, online communications, and technical research/communications. Additionally, I helped with technical marketing by presenting at highly visible industry conferences and served as the key spokesperson for the division with press and industry analyst groups (e.g. Gartner Group and IDC). I also particpated in the sales process delivering high-level corporate and divisional strategy presentations to key customers helping to close large software deals ($1M+). Consistently met or exceeded sales quota for this division and helped to grow the division's overall revenue from $201 million in 1997 to $280 million in 1998.PLATINUM was the eighth largest software company in the world, before it was acquired by CA Technologies in 1999.

Was responsible for researching, analyzing and investigating the DBMS marketplace in terms of understanding how databases are administered and managed. Key duties included advising Gartner clients with research and inquiry support in the area of database administration and database performance management. Regularly spoke to and advised executives and technicians from both vendor and business client accounts.

Was responsible for the development, maintenance, and delivery of several PLATINUM courses for DB2, SQL Server, and client/server technology. Additional responsibilities included research and development of PLATINUM Guide for DB2, PLATINUM Reference for DB2, and PLATINUM posters. Author of PLATINUM's monthly DB2 tips. Performed DBA duties for the education division's DB2 and SQL Server databases. Provided technical editing and writing expertise for PLATINUM publications. Lectured on various topics including DB2, SQL Server, ORACLE, relational technology, client/server, OO technology, and conceptual data modeling. Was also responsible for general DBMS research, assisting technical support, and writing technical articles and presentations.

DBA and data analyst helping to build and support Duquesne Light's DB2-based customer information system. Supported an extensive development effort that included both DLC employees and Price Waterhouse consultants. Responsible for day-to-day DBA and performance management tasks.

DBA in charge of supporting Mellon's DB2 subsystems and applications. Experience with both IMS and DB2. Duties included performance management and tuning, database change management, backup & recovery, creation and enforcement of standards, and training staff in DB2/SQL.

Responsible for maintenance and development work on several large, batch and on-line, IMS applications (Order Entry, Automated Car Control). Duties included COBOL programming and analysis using IMS DB/DC, MFS screen design, and logical database design.
