Defined the strategy for EB to efficiently enter the specialized device product supply business in a virtual ODM-like fashion to address high margin but low volume vertical markets such as public safety, mobile satellite, defense, and secure government. Cross-functional responsibilities included: product management of the Android and LTE based Smartphone/Tablet device platform; supporting the business development and sales teams; negotiating contracts, licenses, and intellectual property rights with both our customers and key technology suppliers (chipsets, software, etc.); and assisting program management with budgeting, scheduling and cross program dependency planning.

Supported the business development group with new customer engagement.

Analyzed and evaluated emerging technologies and trends in the converged mobile device space. The technologies spanned application processor chipsets, wireless technologies and chipsets, antenna technologies, display technologies, memory solutions, mobile operating systems, mobile applications, and wireless services.Assisted the Investment Management (Venture Capital) group with technical due diligence on a variety of potential investment opportunities.Analyzed, evaluated, and specified the wireless connectivity features of an ultra-portable MicrosoftWindows PC. This included the Wide Area (WWAN), Local Area (WLAN), and Personal Area (WPAN) wireless networking features. Specified and selected the 3G (EVDO and HSPA) data modules, the 802.11 b/g chipset, and the Bluetooth chipsets. Negotiated contracts for and managed the outsourced development of custom wireless modules and wireless antenna systems. Negotiated features with target carriers and assisted in the device certification process.

Specified, designed, and implemented firmware for the Theater Grand Series III/IV Audio/Videoprocessor and the Ultimate Receiver. The processor and receiver were 7.1/9.1 channel designs,included full automatic audio-video source scanning/switching, DSP Dolby Digital/DTS decoders andintegrated home automation system remote control features.Advised on the feasibility of various proprietary solutions for wireless audio distribution.

Founding engineer for a broadband wireless start-up. Analyzed and evaluated broadband fixedwireless technologies and associated chipset and system manufacturers. Analyzed and evaluatedbroadband wireless air interface protocols and standards (BWIF, 802.16, etc.). Assisted in definingthe architecture of both the base station and the user equipment terminal, which were based on theDOCSIS based cable modem systems. Lead the development of the MAC layer software and PHYinterface firmware.

Designed, implemented and supported call processing software for TIA/EIA-136 (TDMA) and GSMcompliant cellular phones. Assisted in bringing to market Motorola’s first dual-band (800-1900MHz), dual-mode (TDMA-AMPS) cellular phone and a series of derivative phones. Primarily responsible for Digital Control Channel (DCCH) layer 3 features. Implemented Autonomous Systems features such as New System Search, Manual System Search and Quick Switch. Worked with base station vendors to resolve interoperability issues. Worked with carriers to resolve field issues.

Founding engineer of a cellular smart antenna start-up. Specified, designed, and implemented digital hardware and firmware for smart antenna systems for both analog (AMPS/NAMPS) and digital (GSM, TDMA, and CDMA) smart antenna systems. Implemented and integrated system-level control algorithms for the smart antenna systems. Reverse engineered cellular base stations to allow third-party antenna systems to integrate with legacy carrier infrastructure.

Developed a simulation using MATLAB of a wireless user location system. The simulation used fuzzy logic and genetic algorithms to process uplink RSSI and BER to determine a user's location. The system was demonstrated using actual data collected from a PACS field trial. Evaluated 2G cellular technologies for next-generation cellular networks.
