Responsibilities included managing instructors and course materials for the core foundations portion of the M.Ed. program and facilitating the B.A. in Education Certification program for the Bellevue site. In addition, I coordinated the State OSPI accreditation visit to the SOE, facilitated the creation of a university wide program to support students experiencing academic difficulties, lead the first major rewriting of the core curriculum in ten years, participated on the Staff Development Committee including organizing two university conferences, analyzed data for a WERA research grant, and wrote a chapter for an international book on comprehensive education.

Program Director of the Bachelor of Arts in Education program since November, 2003. Responsibilities include managing seven sites and 12 senior faculty in Western Washington. Overseeing program development and adherence to OSPI standards. Regular reporting to the City University PEAB.

I have been the resident director for the Mountaineers Kitsap Forest Theater since 2001. I have directed 20 musicals over that time. We are a community theater with a focus on using multi-age casts for our spring musicals and smaller ensemble shows in the summer.

Teaching such classes as, Issues and Trends in Technology Education and School Curriculum, I apply my years of real experience creating new curriculum and using technology in the classroom with the philosophical and empirical knowledge I have gained through my doctoral studies.

My teaching assignment consisted of team teaching an integrated Math, Social Studies and Science Elementary Methods Class (though we planned together, I specialized in the Math component), supervising field experience teachers, teaching a Middle School Methods class, and teaching a graduate research class through distance education.Received a Bush Grant for writing and implementing student-centered curriculum in a course on Classroom Assessment.Co-wrote a research grant with SciMathMn Teacher Research Network. The study is part of a statewide effort to gather qualitative and quantitative data on how beginning teachers are faring creating constructivist type classrooms.As a member and chairperson of the Education Department's Portfolio Committee I have helped to develop a four-year program for students to create a professional portfolio. All graduating seniors will present their portfolios to an audience of educators and business people from the surrounding Duluth community.

I was integral in the development of a program that has gained the school a reputation as a leader in restructuring. When our administration initiated a program for gifted students I was chosen to head up the project. Other schools in the district have since begun similar projects modeled after ours. I advocated and piloted numerous programs including portfolio use, a career shadow day for all 8th graders, and Spring Forum, an event in which each 8th grader reports to community members what he or she has learned at Issaquah Middle School. As Activity Coordinator I started several school traditions that have now been in place for over 10 years. The school has a thriving theater program, which I originated over 11 years ago.Over a five-year period I developed a Video Media class. This process included designing the curriculum, choosing the equipment, and designing the room in which the program is housed. With the success of the program, a new teacher was trained and 8 computer stations of Avid digital editing have been added to the 8 video cameras and lineal editing center used to teach the course.The Big Question Curriculum is an inquiry approach to teaching Humanities that I developed with several other teachers. Briefly, over the course of the year, students are posed six universal questions in a kid-friendly manner. By using discussion, researching case studies, writing papers, reading historical fiction novels and other related activities, students formulate an answer to each question. Questions include: What should the role of government be in our lives? And What is the fairest way to distribute income?

This committee set the standards for and created the first computer curriculum for the elementary schools in the district. The most enduring legacy of the program was the Computer Seed Teacher program that identified teachers at every elementary school to organize the building's technology program. This program was finally retired last year as the district moved toward hiring technology specialists for each building.

I represented the Northwest Initiative for Teaching and Learning (NWIFTL) Assessment Group. My work on the commission included learning and developing strategies for disseminating the new Washington State Learning standards to teachers. As a member of NWIFTL I helped to develop programs for disseminating the State Standards and improving teachers' assessment strategies. NWIFTL also supports schools financially in the process of restructuring and seeks to identify successful processes. My work with these groups included my own work with the Issaquah School District Assessment Team.New Standards Portfolio Project

Over three summers I built a summer stock program that eventually was incorporated into the Issaquah School District and is still running today.

After completing two levels of training in the Foxfire philosophy I was invited to join the Board. My work involved planning training sessions and regular meetings of the more than 50 school Soundfire Regional Organizations.Gifted and Talented Review Committee

"Final Evaluation of the Learning Network program in the Evergreen School District" I was a co-writer on the final evaluation of a 4 year evaluation of the Learning Network program implemented in Evergreen School District. The final results were presented at the Washington Education Research Association annual convention in March of 2003."An Evaluation of Student Writing and Classroom Environment in Immersion Laptop Classrooms." Submitted for review to Computers in the Schools. This article reviews the results of a study I conducted on the use of laptop computers in 5th and 6th grade classrooms. There were no significant results leading to the conclusion that when districts plan to purchase computers they must consider systemic changes to support the new technology."The Use of Portfolios: Knowing When to Use Inner and When to Use Outer Assessment." Soundfire Workshop, 1992. In this presentation I advised teachers that portfolios could simply become an expensive way to sort students if used only in a high-stakes manner. "Assessment: Using a Rubric as Your Lesson Plan." Issaquah School District, 1994. The process of creating rubrics does more than help students know the learning targets. Creating rubrics helps teachers identify the critical points of the lesson plan. "The Big Question Curriculum: An Inquiry Approach to Humanities." Along with another teacher, I organized and led a trip for students to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We stayed with host families for four weeks. During this time we met daily with 30+ Brazilian students daily, studying language, computers and cultural awareness.
