This experience gave me the opportunity to coach and mentor young, less experienced ice hockey officials and test my “story telling” approach now leveraged throughout my career.Leadership and life-long learning are vital experiences for career development, and both were extremely critical during my 10 years of self-employment. Hiring and leveraging people’s best skills, while also being required to execute on every detail of running a business were powerful awakenings. This lesson marked my current approach and my strong appreciation of the benefits of empowerment. Recognizing and celebrating successes on one hand while not being afraid to openly navigate challenges. Positive and impactful feedback with an authentic personal interest in employee well-being and growth is the cornerstone of my approach.My leadership experience in both national and international organizations has contributed to my belief that culture is the glue that binds the foundation, vision, and mission of an organization to employee engagement.
