Bringing a sense of stability to a chaotic environment was the main goal during the short term contract assignment to cover purchasing and shipping supervisor activities. Immediate organization of the office established a more positive work situation. Resolving contracting errors during the order fulfillment process was one of the biggest challenges, doggedly running the issues to ground until they were successfully resolved. Joined the team for a two month short term contract assignment, to assist with the conversion of the current SAP system to the new parent company SAP system. Initially, involved with translation of the work instructions to the new system and verifying the fidelity of the transferred information. As the transition and work load progressed, tasked with resolving system generated problem critical warehouse posting errors and reduced negative stock postings by over 50 percent. Impressed with the quality of work, early on the company stated the temporary position would turn into a permanent job offer. However, this company supplied chemicals to the oil industry and the downturn in oil prices put increasing pressure on the company financial position. Even though they fought to keep me on the team, the economic downturn eventually became too much and they reluctantly had to discontinue the contract.

The group lead stated that I asked the right questions when figuring out the proper ITAR classifications for hardware and intellectual property. Over time, the most difficult and most urgent Incident classification tasks were transferred from other desks to mine. This drastically reduced errors and the extra “help” from management when things did not go quite right. Although I was very good in this position, the budget sequestration process ended my time with Bell Helicopter, along with hundreds of fellow employees every month.

Faster, better, cheaper is the byline that describes my purchasing and contract management experience. "Better" focuses on a quality product that meets the requirements and translates to value. Streamlined the buying of nuts and bolts at the lower end of the purchasing activity all the way to rescuing multi-million dollar projects that were dead in the water. Efficiently managing plastics, composites, sheet metal, machined parts, electric harnesses, and outside processing were some of the things in between. On these rescued projects, I jumped in and organized, prioritized, and placed contracts that were stuck in the process. Not satisfied to accept the substandard performance on an inherited problem part, I found a new supplier, got qualification requirements, new tooling made, and qualified a new part and supplier. This resulted in a 30% decrease in cost and a 50% decrease in lead time. The first conversation after inheriting another supplier resulted in the supplier almost refusing to do business with the company because of the problems with receiving, accounts payable, engineering, etc. I resolved the issues and the supplier was later supplier of the year. Seasoned suppliers regularly gave him high marks for the quality of work products and clear, efficient communications.
