I really enjoy the direct classroom interaction with the kids I teach. Every day is a new day, and every child and classroom dynamic is different. Teaching is never boring! I have a great time using the vehicles of maths and science, to help my students learn to think critically. That's my real goal as a teacher, to progress my students along the path of critical thinking, so that they will be able to navigate the challenges that will come up in life, and be problem solvers. Amongst that and being rigorous with the curriculum, I also endeavour to help my students understand they are highly valued and are special individuals. In the end there is more to life than a good grade! I face many challenges daily as a teacher, and have to meet constant deadlines, so I am used to working under pressure and producing results in difficult circumstances. I've also had the pleasure of organising the School's Singapore Science Trip in 2017, and assisted in 2015 and 2013. These trips have been highlights in my career as a teacher.I also taught for six years in the 1990's.

Karratha | Perth | Darwin

My wife and I were in full-time ministry with The Salvation Army.We oversaw the running of the Karratha Women's Refuge, Thrift Shop, Church and a community based youth engagement program operating as a skate park and drop in centre out of school hours. A part of my duties included facilitating the annual Red Shield Appeal for the region. During our three years in Karratha we were presented with an award in recognition for our contribution to the Shire of Roebourne Community. On being moved to Perth, I was the Assistant Manager at the Harry Hunter Centre, then Bridge House. These are Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation centres. I managed all levels of staff, including counsellors, assisted with the budget, and facilitated group sessions with residents. My role covered all areas of the programme, including the sobering up centre, detoxification, 4 week assessment for the longer term residential program, and I assisted with the non-residential program as well.When we were appointed to Darwin, we oversaw all aspects related to the Corps (Church) in Darwin.
