Developing mass spectrometry-based lipidomics applications to probe mechanisms of inflammatory-related diseases. Current efforts are focused on obstructive lung disease. Our group is also interested in metabolic pathway reconstruction and network analysis.

Developed mass spectrometry-based methods for quantification of oxylipids.

Developed methods for examining hypervariable antigenic proteins in the malaria parasite. These approaches have been collected into the varDB database in collaboration with the Kyoto University Bioinformatics Center (http://www.vardb.org/).

Founded the first Karolinska Institutet International Laboratory. Research in the group is focused on developing novel technologies to perform highthroughput molecular phenotyping. A particular emphasis of our work is to understand the role that environmental and dietary exposures play in disease etiology in our efforts to identify a quantitative description of Health.

Working with Prof. Stephen Rappaport to understand the role of gene x environment interactions in obstructive lung disease.

Visiting Associate Professor in the Division of Applied Life Sciences. My time there included continuing my research activities on structure-function relationship studies on carboxylesterase enzymes and their interactions with agrochemicals and subsequent effects upon lipid metabolism. We also continued to expand our research efforts in Systems Biology at the Kyoto University Bioinformatics Center (KEGG), to elucidate mechanisms in inflammatory diseases, with a focus on asthma. Activities also included guest lecturing and a series of career development seminars with graduate students.

Post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Chemical Research. Developed bioinformatic approaches to analyze metabolomics data. Specifically focused on the effects of PPARa agonists upon lipid metabolite profiles. Conducted research into insecticide development using ecdysone agonists. Studies employed 3-D QSAR analysis of insect molting hormone activity using a cell-based high-throughput screen.

Examined the effects of lipid mediators (PPARa and PPARg agonists) and agrochemical precursors upon oxylipid and structural lipid metabolism using metabolomics approaches. Developed Toxicity Identification Evaluation (TIE) procedures for pyrethroid insecticides. Results were used to implement novel methods for pyrethroid detection in receiving waters.

Conducted post-doctoral studies in the Division of Applied Life Sciences. Research involved using classical and 3-D QSAR models to examine the inhibition mechanism of the carboxylesterase enzyme juvenile hormone esterase by trifluoromethyl ketone (TFK) inhibitors.
