Lead and manage the performance of the Network Safety, Health and Environment Operations team to investigate and manage network related incidents, which have and impact on the community and the environment, and identify opportunities to improve public safety and the operational performance of the network.

I have recently been engaged as Principal Consultant to New Age HSE Services, to deliver a full suite of bespoke HSE consulting support in the areas of Health, Safety and Environment management and leadership, HSE performance improvement, management system development, training, contractor procurement/evaluation and management, injury management and workers compensation, environmental management and health and wellness programs.Currently, I am consulting to a global organization who has been contracted to deliver specific broadband technologies across Australia's Telecommunications network.

Engaged by New Age HSE to develop a HSE Management System for Arris to support their Australian telecommunications projects.

This solution was an ipad app which integrates into the corporate HSE IT reporting system and had eliminated a significant amount of administration, allowed for automation, and provided national data to assist in reporting (HSE performance, audits completed to plan, non-conformance trends etc) Created a high performance team who have been recognised and acknowledged as being trusted business partners to the WA business. Consistently achieved and exceeded HSE performance measures Assisted the business to attain a favourable audit result by 3rd party auditors – BSI. This was needed to maintain NBN Co’s accreditation for AS 4801 . Developed a range of reporting and analytical tools to assist in capturing and measuring HSE performance across a number of measures. This assisted in determining business and team performance, areas of improvement and strategies to maintain performance.

This resulted in Telstra maintaining its ‘preferred contractor’ status and a contract worth in excess of $35 million. Developed cost savings and efficiencies in the purchasing of various forms of PPE. This required the review of Telstra’s expenditure on various items of consumable PPE, in particular to electrical insulation gloves, their replacement cycle and the ongoing requirement for replacement given the change in various field practices. The review concluded that their replacement frequency could be extended and had resulted in an estimated annual saving in the order of $100 thousand nationally. Worked closely with Return to Work (RTW) vendors to significantly improve service levels and return to work outcomes. I led improvements in earlier return to work outcomes by negotiating improved contracted service level expectations and establishing a communication framework between the line manager and the vendor, to collaboratively develop suitable RTW outcomes. This resulted in improved partnering between the stakeholders and better RTW outcomes for the injured worker. This also had the advantage of constraining and reducing workers compensation liability costs to the business.

This was in addition to the day rate I was being charged out at, which was in the order of £650-£700/day.

This was specifically for commercial businesses Led the collection of data for project (co-sponsored by the London MET Police) relating to the management of aggression and violence as a H&S risk in specific high risk businesses – currency business outlets, liquor outlets. This required that I inspect and assess a large volume of premises throughout the municipality to gather and collate baseline data. My participation in this project was a key component of an overall strategy being developed by both the council and the police.

For herbicides, pesticides and fertilisers). This was a Federal government funded initiative called the ‘Drummuster project’ Successfully negotiated a fee for service consulting arrangement to neighbouring rural local government authorities who didn’t have the resources to support the management of specific activities (health and safety, town planning and building management). Project managed the maintenance and repair of the Shires heritage assets, in line with approved heritage plans. This required obtaining government funding, developing budgets, and project managing contractors for aspects of the project. This led to the protection and preservation of the Shires, high value municipal heritage assets. Led an initiative with a government agency owning a large housing portfolio, to improve the standard of repair and safety of its housing assets within the municipal district. The houses were often occupied by socially disadvantaged members of the community and a large proportion of the housing was considered unsafe. The initiative centered on prioritizing risk and improving the standard of repair and safety of the housing stock. This also supported the proactive delivery of community and government welfare services to this impacted section of the community.

This was to support the safe handling and disposal of asbestos waste and to reduce the risk of illegal dumping. Led the evaluation and assessment of significant events within the City, namely the World Swimming Championships (1998). This required close partnering with the event organisers and their team of experts to ensure that health safety and environment risks were appropriately managed, including engineering risks for seating stands, and emergency preparedness in the event of an emergency. My approach to the management of this event was recognised by the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and I was asked to present to its members and to share learnings. Was invited to participate as a board member of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health (WA) and assisted in the development of its strategic direction, provision of support and assistance to its membership, the development of learning programs for its Continual Professional Development program and assisting in representing feedback to government agencies on specific legislation. I was the youngest member to be invited to participate on the board.
