A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.
Senior Program Manager, Environmental Engagement
I served as an advisor on community engagement, environment, and equitable development topics Port-wide, with a special focus on maritime-impacted communities. I built new strategic relationships and ushered institutional change that advances sustainability and equity. I forged creative partnerships with near-Port communities to ensure long-term and transformational impact in our region. I worked with Duwamish Valley community partners to establish the first environmental justice policy at a Port. I managed the policy's implementation in collaboration with community leaders through the Port's Duwamish Valley Community Equity Program. Our program pioneered community leadership at ports internationally by establishing a permanent and compensated community advisory group consisting of low income neighbors of color, the Port Community Action Team. This group oversees program strategies and makes shared decisions to ensure impact. I led place-based economic development efforts such as spearheading the Port's opening of the Duwamish River Community Hub, an economic justice center curated by community advisors in the Port Community Action Team. I organized the Incredible Parks Want Incredible Names campaign, which brought together thousands of constituents to rename six parks to reflect local community, ecological, and historical values. Four of them are now in the Coast Salish Lushootseed language and two are English, each one connecting to environmental history of the site. The campaign took place during the pandemic as part of Earth Day's 50th Anniversary and focused on inclusivity. Our team conducted outreach in multiple languages, received input using diverse methods (online, voicemail, paper ballots) and harnessed community storytelling to garner participation. Our decision making process was led by a stakeholder group consisting of environmental, tribal, community, historical, and port perspectives.
Program Manager, Environmental Engagement
I launched multiple community partnerships to address environmental justice issues connected to Port operations in near-airport and near-seaport communities. From organizing habitat cleanup events, launching a public parks renaming campaign, to establishing the Port's first environmental grants program, I facilitated community leadership in transforming the Port to adopt more equitable and sustainable practices across King County.
Field Organizer And Researcher
For the Civic Engagement Program, I delivered culturally competent, language appropriate voter engagement projects such as "Ballot 101" workshops, phone banks, ethnic media outreach, and social media campaigns to promote civic engagement across Asian American and Pacific Islander communities. I was contracted by ACRS to conduct a statewide research project on behalf of SEIU 775, the union representing homecare health workers. Our study was to identify any inequities in resource delivery to English Language Learner union members and to make recommendations for policy and investments to better serve these members. I collected and organized qualitative social research data gleaned from multi-cultural focus groups representing Chinese, Russian, Korean, Tagalog and Spanish-speaking healthcare workers across rural and urban Washington. I conveyed frontline healthworker suggestions to ACRS and union leadership to advocate for improvements in equitable service delivery.
Program Coordinator
I crafted numerous educational programs that engaged diverse audiences in discussions on a wide breadth of civic issues such as youth development and education, IT and voters education, immigration, local history, and city planning. I managed the delivery of project plans, status meetings, progress reports, budgeting, final evaluation and grant reporting. My range of event planning experiences included organizing over 12 day-long historical tours across King County, orchestrating 4 formal award ceremonies for hundreds of guests, facilitating intimate invite-only receptions, and coordinating collaborative meetings with partners and stakeholders across sectors.
Food And Land Rights Research Intern
I researched, wrote, and edited a publication that analyzed government reports, field interviews and academic scholarship to elucidate root causes of global poverty and hunger and its relationship to international aid policy. This backgrounder was utilized by ActionAid advocates at the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in June 2012.
Senior Research Fellow
I contributed to multiple publications on best practices in sustainability demonstrated by higher education institutions across North America. I compiled and organized quantitative and qualitative data on campus sustainability best-practices, authored two case studies, and served as a press liaison to promote findings.
Rural Development Intern
ODAM’s programming is dedicated to eliminating poverty in rural south India by supporting local farmers with sustainable agriculture training and girls education programming. I assisted staff in various communications capacities such as editing website content, documenting field work outcomes for grant reporting, designing a volunteer orientation and communications project, and instigating and contributing to a quarterly newsletter for its donor network.
Youth Grassroots Organizing Leader And National Advocate
Led numerous grassroots environmental projects and Get out the Vote campaigns in Texas and Washington; served as Executive Committee leader for national Sierra Student Coalition reviewing annual budgets, staffing, and environmental campaign investments; trained over four dozen youth in policy development and advocacy skills; coordinated statewide youth-led environmental advocacy events
