My professional experience in Railway Engineering spans 31 years in both civil infrastructure and rollingstock areas and in both industry and research contexts. I have had the privilege of working on many interesting projects combining theoretical research, with practical outcomes, patents, prototypes and commercialisations. In the process of doing this I have completed a doctorate in longitidinal train dynamics I have authored and co-authored 94 technical papers, developed two patents and contributed to numerous commercial research and consulting reports. I have worked in the Centre for Railway Engineering for over 25 years with both industrial clients and collaborative partners. As Director, I now have the privilege of leading a talented team of researchers in an exciting time for Rail.Specialties: Longitudinal train dynamics and simulationRailway wagon dynamics and simulationRailway engineeringMechanical vibrations Modelling and simulation of non-linear systems Neural network and fuzzy logic systems Multivariable optimisation: evolutionary algorithms, particle swarm optimisation Automatic control and industrial hydraulicsAutomated condition monitoring, data reduction and reporting
