• Supervised personnel including patent attorneys, patent agents, interns, clerks, secretaries, and bookkeepers;

• Created an IP law firm with a non-resident partner to provide patent, trademark, and copyright legal advice and representation for individuals, corporations, and universities.

• Drafted and prosecuted patent applications for IBM clients in the electronic devices packaging, hardware, and software areas;
• Conducted novelty, right-to-use, infringement, and validity searches and rendered written opinions for patents and trademarks.

• Developed the company’s first in-house IP department, reporting to the Corporate Counsel, and responsible for protecting products and trademarks domestically and internationally;
• Created basic policies and published guidelines for the proper use of trademarks and submission of patentable ideas to the company.

• Instructed foreign agents to prosecute 1,100 pending patent applications before patent offices based on applications drafted in the U.S. and filed in the USPTO;
• Met with domestic G.E. patent attorneys and inventors in the course of prosecuting their foreign cases.
