With enterprise architecture and business relationship management (BRM) so inextricably linked, it was my pleasure to serve as the strategic and tactical lead for both of those important functions for the shared services IT organization within Indiana State Government, the Indiana Office of Technology (IOT). I was charged with ideating and implementing a program to engage senior technical and business leaders within IOT's largest partner agencies, facilitating collaborative planning and decision-making along with providing an additional channel for resolution and escalation for sensitive and important issues. On the technical front, I was charged with relaunching the enterprise architecture program and creating a vision for a mission outcome driven approach to architecture. Much of the focus of the team was around adoption and maturation of cloud infrastructure and modern development practices. I created the first dedicated team for public cloud support with a focus on AWS and Microsoft Azure, freeing up capacity from cloud architects and led the team to develop consistent policies and practices around cloud infrastructure and developer enablement. Through both the architecture and BRM lanes, I acted as a sounding board and trusted advisor across the enterprise for solutioning, implementation, and optimization.

As a Sr. Business Analyst for the Indiana Office of Technology, my role was to assist the State CTO in the charge to “Reduce Time to Mission” in the delivery of core services and to further the vision of creating the “Digital Workplace” for executive branch agencies. Broadly, that included helping to analyze the product portfolio to identify gaps, redundancies, disruptions, and opportunities for reimagining the offerings with a specific goal of providing empathy and understanding around the business needs of the customer agencies—leveraging my prior experience as a customer and the great relationships that I’ve developed in my previous duties. This role allowed me to integrate my broad technical experience, understanding of continuous improvement and agile methodologies, ability to manage and execute projects, and my endless pursuit of driving business value by making technology a supporting partner in the process (as opposed to technology for technology’s sake or the land of “No”). I helped to drive a better government experience for Hoosiers and state employees through providing technology in the right context with the right value at the right time to meet the people and processes of business operations.

With a wide array of programs and services, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) is an interesting mashup of a bank and a human services agency, delivering government service with a business-like approach to operations. I was responsible for both support of the daily operations of all those business needs while also building the vision of technology for the agency and developing the strategy to align resources and efforts to achieve the goals of IHCDA. Some of the key efforts that I was involved with included:• Implementing an information technology steering committee• Application rationalization• Starting the effort to assess and modernize legacy software systems• Implementing continuous improvement in the IT department• Fostering communications and stewarding development of governance and change control in IT operations and software development

Building on my prior experience as a support specialist and managing projects, my work at the Indiana Department of Education introduced me to the data center. IDOE was in a period of transition in their infrastructure team and I was tasked with helping plan out their infrastructure road map and strategy.
