Human Rights and Environmental Lawyer

Responsibilities include project management, information gathering, analysis, reporting and networking in the area of justice, and anti-corruption.

I was working on a wide range of issues and on a number of projects. My focus area dealt with criminal justice policies and constitutional law. I also dealt with comparative international legal analysis.

I was working on an international research project looking at pre-trial detention practices in 17 countries. I was carrying out the international standards part of the research and interpreting part of the information received from country researchers. I was also irresponsible with drafting the research questions and managing the communication with national researchers. Also in the framework of this project, I organized two large scale conferences.Another substantial part of my work at HHC consisted of assisting the legal team with case-law research, particularly in the context of the European Court on Human Rights (ECtHR) and carrying out a number of ad hoc research tasks.

I was carrying out comparative research on the right to a fair trial, how it is interpreted and applied by the ECtHR, the UN Committee for Human Rights, the Inter-American Court and Committee onHuman Rights, the African Court on Human and People’s Rights. I also followed developments on fairtrail rights in general and access to a lawyer in particular, mostly in Europe. I was also assisting the litigation team on a number of ECtHR and UN Human Rights Committee casesOther tasks included: writing articles for the blog, writing case-briefs, drafting press-releases and following ECtHR developments.
