The Climate Governance Challenge (http://climate-governance.org/):The urgent need to address the climate emergency requires governments and business to accelerate the transition to a new economic model, which seeks to limit global average temperature increases.Climate change is shaping a new reality, creating risks and opportunities for business in a diverse number of ways. Investors, regulators and other stakeholders are now challenging companies to take responsibility by adopting an integrated, strategic approach to addressing the climate emergency. Many if not most boardrooms are grappling with how to frame the risks and opportunities and embed a viable transition strategy into their business models. Boards of directors play a critical role in ensuring the long-term stewardship of the companies they oversee.The CGI was launched in 2019 in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, and has the mission of mobilising and supporting non-executive board directors in their efforts to place climate change at the heart of their boards’ business strategy. It operates through a global network of country and regional Chapters, which serve as a venue for directors to interact with each other, subject matter experts and key stakeholders, as well as access interdisciplinary training tools that give them practical support in the boardroom.
