Cristopher Miranda Email and Phone Number
Hi, my name is Cristopher. I’m a second-year Mechanical Engineering student at MIT. My diverse experiences, from designing and manufacturing high-powered rockets to working extensively in construction, have provided me with a firm and versatile foundation in hands-on engineering skills. These experiences have also sparked my interest in additive manufacturing and mechanical design. I am eager to apply my technical knowledge and practical experience to the fields of machinery, agriculture, or construction. I look forward to leveraging my background to contribute to innovative solutions and tackle complex engineering challenges

Experimental Solid Propulsion Sub-Team MemberMit Rocket Team Sep 2023 - PresentCambridge, Massachusetts, United StatesWorked on the competition and experimental solid propulsion sub-teams for MIT Rocket Team. Some of my responsibilities included:- Designing, and conducting FEA on forward closure, forward retention ring, ensuring there were adequate safety factors as required by Spaceport America. - Creating grain geometry, and designing hardware components for an experimental "P" class motor with 60kN of impulse, and 212 ISP. This is a stepping stone for Rocket Team as we prepare to build larger and larger motors, and eventually test their inflight performance. - CAD and construct a carbon filament winder to create motor cases that are light, and can hold up to the extreme temperature and pressure environment of large rocket motors. -Machining motor components using a mill and lathe, out of 6061 Aluminum, Graphite, and Resin Phenolic. -
Mites Saturday Aerospace Engineering Teaching AssistantMit Introduction To Technology, Engineering, And Science (Previously Oeop) Sep 2024 - PresentCambridge, Massachusetts, United StatesMITES Saturday's is a four and a half year STEM enrichment program where underrepresented students with strong academic backgrounds from public schools in Cambridge, Boston, and Lawrence, Massachusetts gain a foundation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. -
Vice PresidentStudents For The Exploration And Development Of Space (Seds) Sep 2024 - PresentCambridge, Massachusetts, United States- Coordinated social events and helped plan general body meetings for ~40 undergraduate students. - Spread love of space, astronomy, and astrophotography to the MIT student body! -
Propulsion InternMisión Colibrí Up - Mit Jun 2024 - Aug 2024Mexico City, MexicoDesigning a Paraffin-Nitrous Oxide hybrid rocket engine in conjunction with the rocket team at Universidad Panamericana in Mexico City. Main responsibilites included: - Design of fuel system components including nozzle assembly, injector, fuel grain, and ablative lining in SolidWorks and integration into CAD assembly. - Performing stress calculations and finite element analysis in SolidWorks/Ansys to minimize mass while maintaining a safety factor ≥ 2.- Holding preliminary, and critical design review presentations.- Updating a technical report created in Overleaf that documents the team's findings, design process, and showcases the CAD parts and assemblies. -
Blue Origin: Human Operator Challenge 2Nd Place WinnerBlue Origin Jan 2024 - Feb 2024Cambridge, Massachusetts, United StatesWorked with a team of three other students to design and prototype an experiment that takes advantage of the microgravity environment aboard Blue Origin's New Shepard sub-orbital flight vehicle. The experiment tests the effects of Oxygen production by phytoplankton in micgrogravity, with potential applications in planetary terraforming missions. Main responsibilities included:-CAD parts, subassemblies, and assemblies in SolidWorks to integrate the parts and verify they met the size constraints. - Conducted finite element analysis (SolidWorks) to ensure the internal components and the frame could withstand the acceleration as the rocket launches. -Designed and prototyped a scaled down and simplified model on Solidworks to act as a proof of concept and demonstrate how an astronaut would conduct the experiment on an actual mission. Included designing check valves, a pump, and a piston. -
