About Cristobal Achermann, Pmp, Rmp

I'm a IT manager / Project Manager, an Electrical Engineer from the University of Chile, a PMP and RP-PMI certified, with a Diploma in Project Management and leadership training. For more than 20 years I've been working in private / public sector as well as in local and International companies, designing, planning and successfully leading IT operations and projects, creating and managing teams, budget definition and control while dealing w/large contracts. I have solid experience on IT infrastructure in both, operations and projects fields. I'm a team player, self-motivated and I do understand the problems and restrictions involved in complex environments and in multicultural distributed organizations. I have both, hard and soft skills to manage people and I'm passioned about excellence, management and technologies. Some milestones about my professional experience:- Since Jun 2009 I’ve been working in ALMA Observatory, fulfilling the role of IT Project Manager for the ALMA Computing Department. One of my main goals is the financial management of the department. From the technical side, I’m responsible of providing technical knowledge on project & management skills to the department for different processes and tasks as well as the operation of the Datacenter. I’ve worked in radio astronomy facilities for more than 16 years with state of the art technology, in isolated extreme-weather conditions and high altitudes, so I'm aware of the importance of safety procedures and proper planning- From 1999 to 2001, I was the Operation Manager for the Informatics Division of the Ministerio del Interior, in charge of the construction of Datacenter, and the national IT platform, used for the Elections- During part of 2004 and 2005, I worked in the CCB project at NRAO (Green Bank, West Virginia), living in USA for almost 1 year- During 2002 to 2006 I worked as a Observatory Site Manager for CBI Project (CALTECH) taking care of the operation of the observatory- During 2007 as working as the Consulting Manager in Synapsis Chile (ENDESA Group), in charge of more than 70 people, and IT integration business (IT, SAP, utilities billing software)- From 2008 to 2009 I was the IT Manager at the Ministerio del Interior, in charge of the upgrade of 2 Data Centers and creating the IT Operation Team- Since 2009 I've been working in ALMA Observatory as the IT Project Manager, focus on project planning, budget control and PM methodology enforcement, leading complex projects: Budget definition & control; and the construction completion and commissioning of 2 Data Centers.
