Managed all day-to-day and long-term GISP certification activities for the organization, reporting directly to the GISCI Board of Directors. (Resignation from position due to family emergency.) Duties included:- Crafted and began implementation of a three year strategic plan- Monitored and reviewed GISP portfolio submissions- Interfaced with consultants to oversee the biannual GISP exam development and delivery process- Facilitated exam process for candidates, handling scheduling issues, preparation inquiries, results announcements, and exam summary reports- Revived and managed the use of GISCI's social media accounts- Represented GISCI in presentations to the GIS community- Worked with GISCI committees to identify and pursue new initiatives - Managed the organization's email marketing platform for all communications- Documented internal processes, programs, future needs, and suggestions in a comprehensive manual to facilitate a smooth organizational transition and work trajectory

Directed AAG staff and work areas of membership services, research, policy, careers/professional development, and outreach. Duties included:- Evaluated provision of membership services, assessed membership model and benefits, analyzed membership trends, and identified growth opportunities. - Helped conceptualize and write organizational responses to current events and issues.- Led outreach initiatives and activities for different audiences (e.g. collaborating with Esri on geography.com; providing geography career materials to high school guidance counselors; developing an AAG Story Map; staff liaison for the AAG Undergraduate Student Affinity Group)

Managed and directed a variety of research and outreach efforts led by the AAG as well as contributing to AAG communications, membership engagement, and public outreach. Developed and contributed to new initiatives to communicate the work of the AAG to members and share the value of geography and of geographers to general audiences.Examples of roles/projects included:- Served on the writing team for AAG's Strategic Plan for 2020-2023- Planned, composed, and compiled AAG Annual Meeting promotion emails (Geograms) sent weekly to a mailing list of 20k+- Represented the AAG at outreach events and organizational meetings with members, partners, communities (e.g. designing and staffing AAG exhibit at the Esri User Conference)- Contributed to planning of the AAG Annual Meeting (8,000+ attendees) including leading the design of the AAG Meridian Space (AAG exhibit and attendee interaction area), organizing attendee engagement activities and social events (e.g. Student Networking Social), giving AAG program presentations, and managing staff schedules- Staff lead on student membership recruitment and engagement activities- Geospatial Technology Trainer for Department of State Secondary Cities Project (https://secondarycities.state.gov/) in Quito, Ecuador and workshop facilitator in South Africa

Assisted with a variety of externally funded research and outreach efforts led by the AAG as well as contributing to brand development, membership engagement, and internal organization projects.Roles/projects included:- Program Coordinator for AAG-Esri GeoMentors program, a nationwide volunteer network (2000+) to increase and enhance GIS use in K-12 education. Ran all aspects of the program: social media, website content, registration management, email newsletters, monthly email correspondence with volunteers, conference presentations and webinars, meeting exhibit displays and staffing, etc.- Geospatial Technology Trainer for Department of State Secondary Cities Project (led or co-led training for two workshops in Kharkiv, Ukraine)- Researcher for geography education, geography careers, and geospatial data research projects including the AGI-AAG GeoCareer Master’s Preparation Survey, Advanced Placement GIS&T course development, and NSF-funded project to develop a geospatial virtual data enclave (GVDE)- Planned, designed, and managed the AAG exhibit booth space at the AAG Annual Meeting (floor plans, product design & ordering, implementing new membership engagement activities) - Member of the AAG Communications team - contributed to marketing and messaging content for AAG membership, geography community, and general audiences on all platforms (email, websites, digital ads, promotional flyers, social media)

Taught Cartography; Maps & Mapping; Introduction to Human Geography; and Environmental Problems, Population, and Development with class sizes ranging from 20 to 130 students. Advised and managed students participating in undergraduate research credit on cartography-related projects.

Helped develop and write refereed journal articles with researchers in the Women in International Development office; Developed a survey for assessment for a USAID funded program in Uganda; Performed various tasks to assist the director of Women in International Development including compiling presentations, collecting and summarizing literature, and organizing online resources.

Assisted in a variety of capacities while serving as a Graduate Teaching or Research Assistant for the Department throughout my Masters and PhD. Research Experiences included:- Worked with the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise to develop the GIS component for a study of resources for healthy living in Danville, VA.- Provided GIS expertise to investigate the spatial dimensions of Lyme disease in Virginia from field-collected deer tick data.- Assisted in analysis of pedagogical study comparing virtual and conventional landscape interpretation.- Investigated potential habitat characteristics associated with the presence of disease-carrying snails in streams in southwestern Virginia using GIS.- Worked under the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency grant: “Ultra-High Resolution Interactive Information Visualization"; designed and conducted multiple monitor high-resolution display usability research with geospatial information.Teaching Experiences included:- Teaching Assistant to GEOG 1004: Introduction to Human Geography: Provided grading assistance, created assignments and introduced in-class activities.- Teaching Assistant to FOR 5264: GIS in Natural Resource Management: Provided assistance to students completing lab assignments, graded assignments and entered grades, covered lecture and lab during professor’s absence.- Summer Instructor for a section of GEOG 1004 Introduction to Human Geography.

Assisted with the undergraduate summer research internship program: Presented workshops to undergraduates on topics such as mentoring relationships and how to present research (oral and poster presentations); provided guidance and advice to undergraduates concerning the graduate school experience.

Explored visualization strategies for vector and raster map comparison; created and implemented QA/QC protocol for digital data generation from paper map sources; participated in an evaluation of a human terrain analysis suite; extracted SAV (submerged aquatic vegetation) from aerial imagery to estimate invasive species presence in a recreational lake for cleanup/maintenance efforts.
