Senior Planner
I lead and perform planning and urban design services for a variety of multimodal transportation studies to make places better for people. Using data informed planning and a safe system approach, I work with teams and communities to understand problems and identify innovative, context sensitive solutions. We build capacity in communities through education, engagement, and training so they can continue to build on planning and implementation efforts long after projects are complete.
Associate Active Transportation Planner
I worked to make it easier to get around in the San Diego Region by managing the planning, design, outreach, and construction for projects from SANDAG’s $200 million Bike Early Action Program. I managed 6 Capital Improvement Projects, totaling over $100 million, intended to reimagine our streets to create safe, comfortable, accessible, and equitable active transportation connections within our urban and downtown neighborhoods and linking the larger San Diego area to the US/Mexico border crossing in San Ysidro. I was responsible for identifying issues and solutions in planning phases, guiding and modifying consultant designs and analysis to meet the most innovative standards, moving projects through the environmental process, identifying and applying for grants and other funding, organizing and conducting public outreach, coordinating with stakeholders, developing and monitoring contracts and budgets, moving projects through the review process at various agencies, and ensuring that designs maintain their integrity through the construction process.I also led the development Active Transportation component of San Diego Forward, SANDAG’s innovative 2021 Regional Vision. The vision proposes to change how we live in and travel around San Diego in Five Big Moves, using active transportation to support and elevate each of the moves.I also sat on SANDAG’s inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council. In this role, I helped write SANDAG’s Equity Statement, aided in the development of our Equity Action Plan, helped to set the strategies and policies for the group. As a council member, I also worked to bring an equity lens to SANDAG projects and practices.
Urban Designer / Planner
I managed and performed analysis for a variety of planning and urban design studies, mostly focused on multimodal transportation and land use. These projects include detailed analysis, strong public involvement, the development of context sensitive solutions, and the presentation of recommendations in a graphic manner that is easy to understand, with the overall intention of improving the community for the people who live there and experience it daily. Generally, this involved developing innovative short term and long term interventions to retrofit existing, auto oriented environments into equitable, walkable, livable, and economically and environmentally sustainable communities.
Urban Planning Analyst
I worked on a variety of transportation and land use planning projects from start to finish. My duties included performing data collection; detailed demographic, transportation, and land use analysis; development and evaluation of stakeholder driven alternatives; public involvement activities; and final report production for corridor plans, demonstration site plans, and station area plans. Using that information, I worked to develop context sensitive recommendations for complete streets plans; bicycle and pedestrian connectivity assessments; corridor plans; and multimodal transportation projects. I also performed several graphic design services, including designing visuals for public meetings, presentations, plans, and reports including maps, infographics, plans, cross-sections, layout designs, and before and after renderings.
Urban Planning And Design Intern
My duties included working with the Principal Planner on design elements of campus master plans and corridor studies such as pedestrian and traffic flow, sidewalk and road placement, and campus design. I also completed market research and site visits on universities and cities such as parking analysis, existing conditions analysis, and demographics research. Other duties included rendering final master plans using AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, and Illustrator and creating PowerPoint presentations regarding the planning process and final master plans for use in public stakeholder meetings and final presentations to executive boards.
Gis And Planning Intern
My duties were split evenly between the GIS and Planning departments. During my time there, I was responsible for several projects. Most notably, I headed and completed the Participant Statistical Areas Program (PSAP) for Census 2010 for Brevard County. I organized and directed all meetings related to the project and submitted the final results to both the U.S. Census Bureau and Brevard County along with a detailed guide and mapbook. This project also required me to complete market research to discern designated places and other areas. My other duties included reviewing grant requests for intergovernmental coordination, assisting in the maintenance of the CFGIS Clearinghouse including updating Future Land Use Maps using ArcGIS to reflect comprehensive plan amendments for use in the region. Additionally, I completed research for the 2009 update of the Central Florida 2050 Plan in the areas of Transportation, Affordable Housing, Energy, and Water Resources.
