I was the 2011/12 Chair of IABC's international executive board. As part of my six year tenure on the executive board I moved into the strategic leadership role, serving as vice chair in 2010/11. During my time as Chair I lead the board and association through the beginnings of major change, both in strategic direction and how the association operates.I lead the development of a new strategic plan to change the business at a time where associations were having to re-invent themselves to stay relevant. This including having to find a new executive for the association and re-align the strategic direction with the operations to look at new revenue opportunities. The strategic plan lead to a focus on major development in the areas of content to support professionals in communication, as well as a stronger focus on career development including establishing professional standards and career paths. Final a focus on the business to bring the Association up to date with needs from members. Much of what was achieved by these task forces will have a lasting impact in positioning the association for future growth in membership, revenue and relevance within the profession.
